Gibbs OR Murphy To The Gold Coast?

With two new clubs to be launched in Queensland and NSW over the coming years, we all know that current AFL clubs will most likely be pressured to hand over a couple of their current players.

The likely scenario will be that each club will have a list of ten untouchables, and I'm certain that Murphy and Gibbs will be at the top of the list at Carlton. But, out of curiosity, if the new club was launched in 2009 and it came down to us choosing between Gibbs and Murphy to be handed over (I know it won't happen), who would you prefer to part company with?

Before abuse starts. I know that the AFL would never ask clubs to hand over one of their best players. It's just my way of finding out how Blues fans compare these two up and coming midfielders.

So, who would you be more willing to part with?

My opinion is that both will be elite players in the AFL, but if I had to select one to be handed over it would be Murphy. Gibbs is more polished, classy, versatile and looks like a player that can change the result of a match. Murphy will be a gun, but isn't as versatile, and his kicking is nowhere near the class of Gibbs. Gibbs has fantastic penetration with his kicking, but on the other hand Murphy can't kick over a jam tin.

In saying that, the club is very lucky to have two quality midfielders on our list.

Nope, i go the other way - Murphy i think has that little bit of magic - gibbs will be precise, but maybe won't be able to break a couple of tackles, almost fall over and then hit fev on the chest. Either way make sure we have these two signed away before any possibility of this arises.

It's like asking which of your two children do you like the most.

The AFL won't get this up, so its a hypothetical.

What has happenned in the past, which I could see happeneing again is that the new sides get first crack at a number of local players, and then a free shot at all the uncontracted senior players prior to the PSD.

Maybe we should keep Ackland and Wiggins on the list a little longer.:D

These threads annoy me, I know if I was one of those 2 boys and came across this thread it'd get me down knowing the supporters like one more than the other. For the record, I can't decide between them two, both future champions of Carlton, let's leave it at that.

I blaitantly refuse to vote. I don't see the point in drawing a comparison between two developing young guys who both have the world in their grasp.

There should be an option some thing alike 'Will not compare'.

Obviously never heard of compulsary aquisition.

I know the club would never be in this situation, but it's interesting to see which way Carlton fans would vote under this extreme situation.

Another extreme, if somebody asked you to go back 20 years and make a decision between SOS and Sticks. Who would you rather have? Two champions! two legends! two heroes! But, you can only have one. Which one would you pick?

Not going to happen.:thumbsu:
Maybe you should consider messaging one of the mods because if you'd like fellow Blues supporters to choose between two developing kids, fella's who have hardly had much of a chance to show the football world what they're all about, then, let's say I would't think of you yoo highly.

Im not worried about either happening - what i am worried about though is them stealing Hammer! Bugger off he's ours!

It would be slap in the face if he left us anyway, we took a big risk drafting him so high and have obviously devloped him well.

You have completely missed the point of this Thread:rolleyes:

It's a hypothetical!!!! One that would never happen in real life.

Don't post if you hate the thread.

Shi*! I never thought of that. He's a Queenslander.. It really depends on if he is one of our top players. Let's hope he would be on the untouchables list at Carlton.

They both offer something different and play a different style so they are too hard to compare. If we were to lose one, I couldn't choose. I would let the chips fall where they may.

Interesting to see that Murph has been hung out to dry on the strength of the NAB cup though.

This Thread is already providing me with the information I was after. The Poll shows that Gibbs is slightly the better player (At this early stage).

No harm done EBIAC! Both are still Carlton players.

This thread shows that Gibbs is better in the opinion of others. Until we get the chance to see Gibbsy take on Murphy at full flight (preferably at training!), I guess we shalt never know.

No harm:thumbsu:.

Fair enough.

The fans are influenced by two average NAB Cup games by Murphy (Especially the Power match).

On the other hand, a brilliant third term last week by Gibbs changes the opinions of the fans.
