Nearly had a heart attack this morning when watching "Today" on channel 9....across the bottom of the screen said "Bryce Gibbs resigns at Carlton". :thumbsd:

Read Kerna's book.
Yeah, he was 'always going home'.
Tony McGuiness and Chris McDermott repeatedly tried to
lure sticks back by taking him out, buying him beers etc etc.
He lead them along the whole time to only crush their dreams.
If Sticks and Ross remain in cahoots Bryce isn't going anywhere
until he retires.

I can understand why everyone would be concearned about Gibbs going home after this contract, I am even one of them, it would be a massive loss if he decides to go back home after his 2 years. The kid is only 19, so he has every right to be home sick.

If we become a competative team in the next 2-5 years, Gibbs won't go home, he would have grown to be a man and not want to go back to his parents....I mean Adelaide is only an hour flight away, and I'm sure he can afford a Jetstar ticket!

There is too much history and big names that will keep him at Carlton! The future is exciting for Carlton and even Gibbs has stated that!:thumbsu:

Mass bitterness and denial set to hit the streets of Adelaide ..

All those Crow fans who were convinced Gibbsy was going back to the Crows remind me of KB when he said this -

Richmond are in the box seat to get Chris Judd :D

I sincerely doubt Bryce will ever return to Adelaide as a player. His father Ross is a friend of Sticks (ex Glenelg boys). Both Bryce and his father publically declared that Bryce "will be a one club player". Still - great news.

Interesting that his father played a lot in back pocket. I heard that he may have had some input into Pagans "apprenticeship" plan last year. Not sure how true it is.

But great to hear his is moving midfield now. This guy is incredible. He is not super fast - but does not need to be. The ball is gathered and effectively discributed before you can lay hand on him. Cant wait!

You're showing your extreme ignorance here
No offence, but your squad was a laugh outside your best 26 players when I saw the team the Herald-Sun had put together.

Where are the class replacements for Goodwin, Burton, Mcleod, Edwards and Bassett going to come from? ;)

Dangerfield will play another year of TAC cup in 2008 and miss a year of development and won't have any AFL experience by this time next year. The only young midfielders I see at Adelaide are Van Berlo, Armstrong, Jacky, Douglas, Knights, Symes, Reilly and Dangerfield. That won't hold a candle to Carlton's midfield in two to three years, let alone the other midfields who will play finals this year and are still young enough to play together for another five years.

Bryce has his old mans cool head.
Ross gibbs did a drop kick out of the goal square in a grand final
in either 85 or 86 for glenelg tiges. pin point.
legend.

As i've said all along, there's no way Bryce was going home. Seriously, where would rather live - Melbourne or the small country town backwater that is Adelaide?

Bryce's dad is one of Stick's best mates and if it's one quality Kernahan has (and i'm sure his friends have) is loyalty.

Yaeh i agree, as long as Sticks has something to do with it Gibbs wont be going anywhere! He will be loyal as Carlton gave him his first crack in the AFL. Good on ya Gibbsy!

There's a greater chance of DC getting something right than Gibbs leaving in two years to return to Adelaide.

Carlton's list will be the better playing group in two years time.

Adelaide's depth outside their best 26 players is non-existant and nothing to be excited about if you saw the team the Herald-Sun put together the other day.

The players ranked from 26-44 are average to say the least.

And that's being kind.

They will be an average team when they lose Goodwin, Mcleod, Bassett, Burton, Edwards and Doughty in the space of two years. They just don't have much class coming through to replace their gun players who are the wrong side of thirty. They'll be competitive over the next two years with their list, but it will be another five years before they will be even contending for the top four again.

Unless they can recruit a Pavlich or another big name player, they do anything startling any time soon.

Mate with all due respect, I think you have underestimated the quality of the younger brigade that we have coming through. Whilst you might laugh at the names I'm about to list it will show you do not know any better. I know we will lose some exceptional players over the next few years (Doughty?!!!) but we can cover it.

Porplyzia, Knights, Reilly, Van Berlo, Mackay, Thompson, Douglas, Vince. Throw in Sellar, Tippett and a fit and firing Hentschel and it doesn't look so bad. Plus Bock and Rutten, arguably the two most important players in our side are a very long way the right side of 30. The only problem is the ruck, however Griffen will be a good player in years to come.

I know it isn't as good as your list, but considering we haven't had our share of frequent high picks like you guys then isn't bad at all and we'll certainly be more competitive than you think.

I think Adelaide should be looking to trade off some senior guys late in their career. I think you could get some very good compensation for a guy like Tyson Edwards, for example, that would set your club up for a number of years.

Rutten, Bock, Sellar and Tippet could be the basis of a very good spine.

Tippet was sensational in the NAB cup final.

They just need to draft midfielders and build some depth there, Van Berlo, Knights and Reilly I rate but I think they will definitely need a couple of elites in the Kerr, Hodge, Bartel range.

Great News!!!
Where are all the people that were saying that we wouldn't be able to fit Gibbs in our salary cap when his contract ends???:)

Awesome to hear Gibbsy stay on board. I heard the news around 11:30pmish last night, couldn't sleep afterwards! Just makes me laugh at those who thought that our salary cap wouldn't allow us to keep players like Gibbs if we got Juddy.

But, but, Rex07 said he was going home!

good 2 Rex07 can eat his own words, and can try again end of 2010 season :) gibbs will extend his contract just before his contract runs out ;)

I Can See gibbs will make sure he stays at Carlton he won't knock back any contract offers Carlton has anything to keep him at the Blues he seems happy so can't see him going home unless something major happens
but doubt it hes got other SA temates to keep him there :)

Go blues 08 is Ours ;)

I Agree if all those players leave at once we could be in trouble except doughty IMO losing him wont hurt us very much at all im hoping he wont be in our best 22 by the end of the year unless he steps up drastically.

What about Scott Thompson? He is only 24 and polled 18 votes in the Brownlow last season. This guy has lots of improvement to come and is already clearly superior to all of the Carlton midfielders/players excluding Judd.

I look forward to seeing Gibbs run out in Crows colours for years to come... He will if he ever wants to play finals football.

Are you suggesting that Adelaide are heading towards the bottom end of the ladder? That would be the only way they would have a good enough draft pick to offer up as a trade for Bryce Gibbs come the end of his new contract in 2010.

Methinks you'll be looking for a very long time.

You see, if someone signs a contract extension it usually means they want to stay at their current club for an extended period of time.

Gibbs will be a Blue for life and it looks as though it really hurts you. What a sad case you are.

fantastic news about gibbsy. I bloody love this bloke and will continue to say the he is the best youngster on our list.

Once again our admin/coaches need to be given another tick by signing up key personnel early in the year
