Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand Justin Reid used to be Bryce Gibbs manager, and most likely was his manager when his 5 year deal was as signed (and front loaded).

This would explain a lot of the animosity from Carlton, that the same guy that orchestrated the contract is now the one actively trying to break it.
Front loading of the contracts is something that clubs come forward with to manage thier cap from year to year. I highly doubt that would have been a big part of the negotiations butother than that, yes Justin Reid was Gibbs' manager until about 12 months ago.

Caro said a few weeks back there is some tension at Carlton as they are not all aligned on SOS's list strategy
Lets work through this. Reading todays paper and Rucci spouting that '' Carlton are no longer talking to Adelaide but the deal is being done between the player manager and Adelaide'' ( if I read it correctly) . If this is true then as a Board ( Carltons) I would be asking WTF is going on? Your List Manager refuses to talk to Adelaides List Manager?

If it isn't true ( most likely) then knowing the GWS deal is more important , players in are more important than those going out, then as a Board you would be hopeful that any deal close to the market rate would be sufficient.

If SOS is grandstanding then this wont end well.

*all purely speculation

I'm entirely unconvinced with Menzel. Happy to be wrong
Shown some really promising signs when he's had a decent streak of games. The fact that he hasn't had one worries me a little, though.

He isn't quite in my premiership best 22 yet, but he's right on the cusp, if he improves again next year he's in

His fitness was shocking when he came to the club, you could see how bad it was when he was at Carlton. Now it'd be better but still not up to scale with our standards, his defensive pressure was unreal throughout the sanfl season.
Here's what Gibbs had to say about him a couple of years ago.
Bryce Gibbs said:
Gibbs said: “’Freak’ is one word that comes to mind. He’s going to be an absolute freak.

“His goal sense… He just reads the play so well. He wants to eventually play in the midfield, which is going to be pretty scary for opposition teams.

“If he can build his body up over the next few pre-seasons and play as that high half-forward… sort of like a Stevie J role, play half-forward but then come into the midfield and create a bit of havoc up the ground. If he can do that, he’ll be a very special player. I’m really looking forward to seeing his development over the next couple of years.

“He’s got a really laidback personality – not much phases him. He’s very easy-going and always happy.”

It's already a win when you consider all that was really given up was Troy Menzel, and I believe he was a crows reserves player this year?

I would rather trade in gws reserves players than keep our own reserves player.
Have you worked out yet why you have pick 5 in the draft?

What I've seen of him.

But, and this is a huge but, he will never get a game until we realize Mackay and Douglas aren't good enough
I think we will see him getting games next year and in fact might play majority of them if he can get his fitness up to the "midfield group" level as we want him to.

Only blind Freddy couldn't see the plan with Menzel this year. People expected him to get games purely on his talent and because he didn't he is all of a sudden a bust.

Bottom line is that those same people need to compare his style of play at Carlton to what he showed in our reserves especially later on in the year.

If he can have a massive preseason, continues playing the style he displayed later in the season and get his fitness up to that "midfield group" he will be a massive boost for us next year. IMHO, the club will look to puch Cameron more into the midfield next year and Menzel will come in to take Charlie's spot and rotate through the midfield. Think of Stevie J role in Geelong a few years back where he split his time between forward line and midfield.

Pyke wants flexibility and he wants players playing a certway. His year was an educational year for Menzel. Similarly to ho Lynch's first season with us. Look at the Chief now. One of the best lead up forwards in the game.

Just wish we had some higher draft picks in the past to compete with what we're going to be coming up against.

A peaked Shiel, Cogniglio, Kelly, Whitfield, Scully, Griffin
Pick 2 pick 2 pick 1, pick 3... also Shiel would have been in the top 3 if he wasn't pre listed.

Imagine adding Treloar instead of Boyd? **** me
Yeah and now they have pick 2 again this year. It's a joke.

He was a crows reserves player all year because your training standards were so shit under MM and he needs 12 months in our program to get him up to AFL standards

CFC trade guru sounds like he is just reading Big Footy. Adelaide have publicly states not one of those players will be traded, Not one! Why haven't Carlton publicly stated Gibbs will be a Blues player next year?

My prediction is Adelaide trade pick 13 to GWS, GWS trade Marchbank to Carlton, Carlton Trade Gibbs to the Crows. Carlton clearly want to use pick 13 for Marchbank otherwise the deal would already be done with their pick 5.

Might want to tell this to Kane McGoodwin
