I've said before, the longer the deal drags on without Carlton having done the GWS deal, the more it helps us.

If they get the GWS done without the Gibbs trade then it evens out again or swings their way.

But if both deals are hanging, the more likely it is Carlton will need this trade to help the other and they won't be missing out on both deals so won't be able to dig their heels in as much

(Eg without 13 they need to deal 5 which is what GWS will be working deals around. If getting 13 allows them to keep 5 and land Marchbank they will need to act otherwise they walk away from both deals empty handed or lose a top pick which would be worth more than whatever steak knives they are going to get from us)
Hence why we went public on Monday morning and Carlton are apparently furious about that. We knew they had to deal with GWS and this makes GWS aware that there is more on offer maybe to them. It forced Carlton to play to our tune.

Possibly a reason why we want them to pay a bit more

We could always say if they pay 40%, we give them a 2nd rounder and a Lyons/CEY/Mackay (please) type?
Seems like a pretty attractive offer imo.
Werent there rumours brisbane were into CEY before? I know he is contracted but he might be tempted given he would have so much opportunity up there, whereas that door is very much closing here.

I think once both clubs know there will be no compensation for Henderson they will start moving towards a deal.

If carlton were smart they would have taken Hendo on Gibbs' contract with unreachable triggers for a second year to get a high compensation pick, then get us to give that compensation pick to them. They wont be using their full cap next season anyway.

Say 4years at $600k for hendo but he needs to be All Australian each of those years to trigger.

Or we will renegotiate Gibbs contract and we wish to have enough to get thst done
If we land Rocky and Gibbs for less than our 2 first rounders and some other bits and pieces that is a massive trade period.

Still would like one of HH, Motlop or Hanley to close it out. Perhaps Hanley and Rocky for 1st and 2nd next year (not that Bris would do that...)

Based on the Titchell trade;
Gibbs + 58 for
13 + 53

Take it or leave it.

I was thinking we would give them our first + whatever we got for lyons (possibly a late second). But now im thinking its definitely overs. Tom mitchell has a decade of footy left in him and is worth basically just a first rounder and somehow carlton think 2years of Gibbs is worth more??? Smh

Okay miscreants we're nearing 5,000 posts. Let's recap:

Things that actually happened this week:
Justin Reid said Bryce Gibbs has requesed a trade to us
http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/br...a/news-story/e5a69588b610bcc20ac0f366aacbb9ad

Things that are speculative:
Everything else

Since this thread started last Monday at noon, it is growing at the rate of ~5000 posts / 6 days = 833 posts a day, or 33.3 pages a day.

I can't be assed reading that much.

So i suggest we implement a buddy system.

No, we don't all say we're moving to Western Sydney, move to Sydney at the last minute, crash a car, <injunction> and claim mental health issues*.

Instead, when something actually happens - God forbid - we each tag two other posters, to let everyone know. Then we can go about our lives like normal peop... oh right, we're not normal. Carry on.

* may actually be true, what would i know? It's for comedic effect.

I agree with that assessment. I don't mind keeping 13 and Lyons. Gibbs isn't a big upgrade on Lyons, just marginally better and significantly older.
No. Significantly better. I wonder if some posters have never watched Gibbs play. Would easily be second best player after Sloane

Well it really depends on who you define as an A grader.

Collingwood - Pendlebury, Treloar, Sidebottom (and Swan if we're counting A grade midfield lists heading into the 2016 season).
GC - Ablett, Prestia, O'Meara
Hawthorn - Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis

Like I think you could argue a few of these guys aren't genuine A graders, O'Meara probably hasn't shown enough for long enough and Lewis is on the decline but they are or have been A grade talent. You've then got teams that either have a couple of top 10-15 midfielders (Geelong for example) or those with a number of high B+ grade ones like Freo who have Mundy/Barlow/Bennell (who is A grade talent imo) behind Fyfe and Neale.

Seems like a number of the above have missed out on a fair chunk of footy this season due to injuries.
Well if you include JOM then you truly are clutching at straws. If he is an A grader then so is Brad Crouch. They might have the A grade talent but they certainly have to reached the A grade status.

The Hawks trio you mentioned are on their last legs. Other than Lewis who will probably end up at Melbourne Mitchell has one year left at West Coast and Hodge one at Hawthorn.

In terms of Freo, if you are including Barlow then you might as well include Thompson for us. They are both coocked. Freo have one genuine A grader in Fyfe who just might be the best player in the comp. Mundy is on his last legs and Neale is not exactly an A grader. Bennell has the A grade talent but let's wait and see on that one.

Again from the top 8 sides who were clearly better than the bottom 10 sides this year, only Sydney and GWS have 3 or more genuine A graders in their midfield. The rest have 1 or 2 and a deep and even midfield with some very good players in there that are not A graders.

We have 1 A grader in Sloane, Gibbs at his best can be one, and a bunch of players on the list who have a genuine A grade talent but are yet to reach that status. This at least 3 A graders talk is funny. Just a couple of weeks ago Bickley was saying Gibbs is a B grader but now that we are trying to get him he is an A grader. Our captain is just trying to be controversial

CEY has said he wants to remain with the Crows and that he expects to be playing seniors next year. He is contracted, so can't be forced to move.
