Because his B&F results, in a poor team, do not justify conversations around 2 first round picks - given his age, I don't think it justifies a first and a second, either. His results are good - not great; which sums him up.

Pretty frustrating - Gibbs could've come to us two years ago, and we would've avoided all of this shit.
I think I may have told you this story but I had a conversation with Triggy before he went and I raised Gibbs. This was before he re-signed with Carlton. He said he wasn't worth the money and it was interesting he played well in the final year of his contract.

Shortly after Trigg goes to Carlton, pretty sus.

Agree to disagree.

IMO Gibbs has been one of the most under achieving #1 picks ever. Hasn't ever reached the potential everyone thought he had and wont now. I've seen him play plenty. Not even the Carlton coaches rate him that highly going on his career B&F ratings. He might be our second best mid if he comes, but that shows just how shallow our midfield depth is. IMO Brad Crouch will be better and Matt might be too. Neither have hit their ceiling. Gibbs has. Lyons isn't a star and never will be, but he's honest and performs pretty well consistently. He's behind Gibbs no doubt, but IMO not that far off.
A bit off topic but I still think that Matt will end up the better player (well aware I will get hounded down for this).

Lack of competition for top 5 results.

He was a number 1 pick. Touted A grader playing for a pretty poor team over his journey. Frankly a true A grader in that team would have 4-5 B&F's in that team.
It's a misconception that Carlton has no top end talent. Our top players have been as good as most teams across the journey. It's our bottom 6-10 players that are the problem, and have been for a good decade. No depth at all.

I agree with you there, great players like Judd, Simpson, Carrazzo, Walker, Murphy in recent years. There's been a reason that fringe players from other clubs have been part of starting 22 and that's not the fault of your best dozen players.

Where did Wright and Kerridge finish in your best and fairest?

Was posted in here that FA window shut yesterday. If true would mean he either stays, gets traded or leaves as a DFA. Not sure why anyone would trade, when they could have had him free, so seems unlikely we'll be getting anything for him. If true about the FA period closing of course.
Ends 5pm today.

Not sure how you can argue that his B&F results are no good. He's been there 10 years and finished top 5 in 7 of those years. Outstanding record I would have thought.

In terms of outside awards it is a little harder playing in a consistently poor side. It's generally the case that the better, winning, sides supply most of the AA and get most Brownlow votes.

That's not to say he hasn't struggled with consistency - he has. But I think that's improving and I think, after being messed around earlier in his career with his role, we are now seeing him in his most natural position at the coalface.

Lets make no mistake about this, when he's on he's a beast, you only have to look at his game v Geelong this year when he took DangerWood to the cleaners. He also almost single handedly dragged Carlton over the line v Sydney with an epic midfield display. By that I'm talking contested poss, clearances, tackles - tough inside play.

On his day he's one of the best, our challenge will be working to ensure that happens more often
Top 5 in 7 of 10 years at Carlton isn't a great achievement, they've been shit. Gibbs is a solid B grader who throws in A grade games here and there. At 28, he's worth about pick 13, give or take a little. If Lyons played more than 70% TOG and had more midfield minutes, that we wasted on Thommo, then he'd be averaging the same amount of disposals and really only missing the leg weapon. Gibbs would make us better, but not by much more than Thommo not playing and Lyons getting more game and midfield time.

Scott West is an example that springs to mind. Was never rated up with the elites like Bucks, Hird, Voss and Roo, but certainly won plenty of b&f's and AA's, both in poor teams and decent teams. Gibbs at least a level below West.

Wright and Kerridge BOTH finished top 10 in Carltons B&F this year, let that sink in for awhile.

The bar is set pretty low to be considered amongst Carltons "top end talent".

That doesn't sound right, I'm no expert on the Blues, but to my mind, your top end talent has largely under-delivered. Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer, Walker don't seem to have reached anything near their potential on a consistent basis. Injuries or whatever, year in year out, they don't seem to have been regularly near their best.

If you want to go tyre kicking in terms of bargaining the trade cost then fair enough.

Otherwise disagree

So can Free Agent papers be lodged today? ....on a Sunday?
As far as I know, in Ricky Henderson case, the club he is going to will inform the Crows list manager they have issued a Free Agency Contract and then they have 3 days to counter that offer or allow him to become a RFA.

That closes 5pm Wednesday
