I'm not saying don't trade for Gibbs but agreeing to trade 2 first round picks is selling the farm.
For the right player it is an astute move. Im not sure this is the right player to be putting all the eggs in the basket for.

I would like to see exactly what pans out before going FULL LINDY.

Carey? ......and that rage of Wells v Carey still continues in hindsight due to "the having a go approach"

I agree with what you're saying, and i supported us risking on the Carey trade for exactly the same situation we find ourselves in now with Gibbs .......but if we only make a prelim, the Gibbs trade debate will rival the Carey trade debate, i can assure you ;)
Carey was a great idea poorly executed.

It really didn't seem like we did our due diligence as he wasn't fit and wasn't interested.

The biggest debate that will rock this forum will be (if the alleged two first rounders goes ahead is)

2016 first and 2017 first vs Bryce Gibbs - Was it worth it?

A flag inside Gibbs time with us, says arguably yes.

Can I just ask - where did "full Lindy" come from ?

Now
About this trade
Didn't we realise when we missed out on the draft picks coz of that bakery bungle, that missing out on early draft picks kills ya!
Look at port
Look at GWS

I don't mind trading for Gibbs with players surplus to our needs but that's as far as I'd go

Anyway

Pray
....continue Lindying and jumping off buildings ;)

Disagree on 4 to 8

Massive upside to 4 key players. The crouch brothers , lever and Hartigan. You can see a rather large acceleration in their development imminent.

With Cameron, Mcgovern, Seedsman and laird also improving.

If Hampton or Miilera find thier spot......

We will get a hard draw for this reason.

We don't need gibbs.
Ah the tried and true path of "nah mate, we don't need to bring in a gun player... ours will develop and we'll be in a dynasty in no time". It's very Adelaide Crows in this millennium.

You know the result every time we've followed this path? We've failed.

I can tell you the result of going down this path again, which is in 3-4 years we'll be sitting here lamenting on another failed generation. It won't be different. It never is.

We need an A grade midfielder now, ideally one who is very skillful. Gibbs fits that perfectly.

Carlton gave up pick 3, Kennedy (worth a first rounder) and 30 for for Chris Judd in his prime.

We are giving up 2 first rounders (admittedly lower first rounders) for an older Gibbs.

GWS and Western Bulldogs will have youth and natural improvement in them.

Maybe we are more of a 3 to 8 side them. 5 teams - crows, swans, Geelong, West Coast and maybe the Hawks are equal.

I disagree, more being out of the game got to him at the start. By the time he started really getting in the groove, he injured himself on a goal post.

Right move, wrong player in the end.

The worst thing about this whole incident is it scared our administration of making these moves in the years after, blowing another set of chances.

Isn't that part of due diligence? We should have been much more thorough of testing to see if he was up to it.

Arguably? If we win a flag, the trade will 100% be worth it. Absolutely no question.

So if Gibbs is totally Mackay useless and we win the flag that year, trading our first rounders for two years straight is worth it?

Im not saying Gibbs will be, Im assuming worst case scenario. But let the flag settle before judging if the decision to get him over has been worth it.

With that analogy if we trade two first rounders for say any player X and we win the flag? Its worth it? Absolutely not, unless of course player X was an absolute key to our success.

Positive - looks like we are getting Gibbs

Positive - we are not losing a quality player , we are essentially keeping our team together ( I even hope we keep Lyons ) and are adding a quality player

Positive - Hamish and recruiters are involved and have given their thoughts on next years draft and what they can do ( with a pick downgrade or whatever)

Positive - there are ways to move up draft order
