We need ready made quality. Weve struggled to get players. We need mids. We've gone ballsy and poached a contracted one.

He will be the best user of all our mids & complement them beautifully. The first mid with polish that can actually hit targets since the Goodwin macca days. A nice change from all out grunt.

We will give up a first and likely pick downgrade on another, and apparently that's insanity. Bullshit. It's like buying 32 bucks worth of fuel and going nah **** that, it's not worth two 20 dollar notes.

It will be a good trade. Or we can keep going round in circles drafting like we have for 10 years. Go all in, this year and next, have a tilt at the flag. Win it, or crash and burn- it's better than mid table.

Then we can talk about who we will get with our top 5 pick and rebuild properly.

Guys lets get a grip here....POTENTIALLY our first this year and a slight downgrade of 1-6 spots for next year. The positives is nothing crazy happened with McGovern, Atkins or any of the crouch bros. who knows what will happen next trade period, we maybe upgrade that pick somehow in a trade. Next years draft is not final until next years trade period is done. We're actually making SOS look like genius the way we're carrying on here
The thing to factor here is Edwards. If he is as good as it sounds like he is, we have our first sorted regardless.

Lets hope that he is.

Exactly.....they probably already rate him as a first rounder so they figure they can probably afford to downgrade a little. If they need to bring in a later pick next year to get the points required then so be it.

Blues midfield will get slaughtered once we take Gibbs out of it. Absolutely put to the sword.

They should've taken Lyons while they had the chance haha
Don't disagree we would be in trouble in the midfield next year.

But if we can keep pick 5 that should bring a good one for the future, then we will be bottom 5 again and get another one, plus we should have some spare cash for a free agent and then we are starting to build some solid foundations around Cripps. Baby steps though and we won't be a contender for the 8 till 2019.

Except for when Hawthorn didn't make the finals for 5 years in a row in the mid 2000's and rebuilt.
And they benefited significantly from the priority pick rule at the time (but still completely stuffed up some of their first rounders - hello Beau Dowling and Mitch Thorpe).

That system doesn't exist anymore.

I'm halfway there with you but **** me, "going all in" on Gibbs doesn't have the same ring to it as getting someone like a Parker (as we dreamed to pull off) or Treloar (as Collingwood did pull off).

won't be enough to win a flag on its own, not by a long way.

If the swap of first rounder for their second is true, not sure how I feel about that as it's pretty risky given Carlton might impress more than expected or we fail to fire. Add that with compo picks being handed out and it could drop a few more places but I suppose it's better than no Gibbs.

If their second back was true I'd love for us to turn it over for Rockliff, basically giving up two first rounders for Gibbs and Rockliff which would be a win in my eyes. Lose Lyons (for cap reasons) but it gets us into the second round of this draft so we can still top up a little.

That said, I feel we won't be doing anything else outside of Gibbs in return for players coming to us, hasn't really been any talk of anyone else linked with us at all which I think we'd have otherwise heard by now. If Rocky was much of a chance I think there would be a little more noise about it.
It sounds like our recruiters didn't have any plans for the trade period. Gibbs wasn't planned it was him who asked to be traded and if we walk away from Gibbs and don't make any other trade then I gotta ask what have our recruiters been doing. If this is the case I will be pissed but before I get pissed I have to wait till the end of the trade period and then make a judgement.

So there is a poster on the Carlton board who reckons he has good goss, anyway he's saying it's 1st this year and next year or McGovern.

He also went on to say that they are going to get Geelongs first for 2017 for Tuohy.

When questioned that Geelong can't as they traded 2 firsts last year he said that's not right, they only traded a first for Henderson and pick 9 for Danger. Now he can't be too bright as pick 9 was a first round picko_O

That fills me with confidence that the first part is crap.

That is true, but they got a few correct!

I agree with having a big crack at Gibbs and even happy with the two 1sts for a 2nd scenario, but it's a bit of a fallacy to suggest you can trade for a premiership. Hawks only started doing this after they won the 2008 flag. Main ingredients came in through the draft.
