What has he actually done?
His press release pretty much confirms what the media has been saying for the last week. Otherwise much of it is the fault of his fans.

Having said, that he has a player that wants to leave, an enthusiastic suitor and a coach that wants 100% committed players. His job is to get a deal done. If he doesn't he could be in the wrong job.

Here's the way I see it:

SOS will accept some sort of deal for Gibbs before the end of the trade period. However he is a very good player and he is contracted, so Carlton doesn't want their supporters to feel like they are getting a bad deal.

Step 1: Leak to media crazy trades for Gibbs that involve very good young players from Adelaide. This establishes that Carlton aren't going to roll over for nothing

Step 2: Release statement from SOS suggesting that Carlton hasn't received an acceptable offer yet. This establishes that whatever deal Carlton accepts will be acceptable and fair value.

Step 3: Accept reasonable deal for both clubs. By previously having established that Carlton won't roll over and will only accept a good deal for their club, this ensures that whatever deal is struck is seen as the best deal.

Thus supporters see that SOS has only accepted what they think is a great deal for them
And don't forget, they also have Steven Trigg! Remember how the Crows used to media manage us like we were all idiots? Get used to it Carlton, get used to it.

I didn't realize you are that dumb but I will dumb it down for you. You post is being deceitful in suggesting that Carlton gave up pick 3 another 1st rounder and pick 30 for Judd but we are giving up 2 1 st rounders for Gibbs.

Botton line is tha Carlton gave up equivalent of 2 top 5 picks and pick 30. Two top 5 picks has more value than two first rounders which in this case are two picks in the teens

That is even if what you are claimingirst up is valid to start with. We are giving up a 1st rou d pick and downgrading another first round pick by a few spots. I know that's almost impossible for you to grasp so I am not sure why I even bother.
I SPECIFICALLY said in my post that our first picks were lower... so you're trying to paint a narrative that doesn't match reality.

So you think pick 13 and pick 15-20 will help you compete for a flag more in the next 3 seasons than a 27 year old Gibbs?

Obviously you rather the 2 picks long term, but you guys wanna be good now and we wanna be good later.
28 year old Gibbs.

Gibbs will not take us from where we are to a flag potential side.. he's just not that good.

You overrate him because the rest of your side is shit.

Carlton
Adelaide: Lyons + 13 > Gold Coast for pick 8
Adelaide: pick 8 > Carlton for Gibbs
Carlton swap 8 for GWS 15, Marchbank and Pickett

Adelaide lose 13 and Lyons gain Gibbs
Carlton lose Gibbs gain Marchbank, Pickett and 15
Gold Coast lose 8, gain 13 and Lyons
GWS lose 15, Marchbank and Pickett and gain 8

Possible? Probable?
Sensible post.

I doubt any of the remaning first round picks are available - Gold Coast is trying to go up, not down, they already have picks in the 20s they won't use, Brisbane and Essendon won't part with their top 5s, Brisbane and Port already moved up with their later first rounders, Fremantle won't move theirs down again, Hawks need theirs, Sydney need theirs, North simply can't do it.

Outside chance of Eagles 12 and Bulldogs 18 being available, but really that's all.

Yeah, I'm a bit the same on future first round picks. A future second is one thing, but with a future first we're only ever a disastrous injury run or some other factors away from having coughed up the best draft pick we've ever been able to use.
Can't always plan on worse case scenarios, the more likely scenario is that we finish closer to top 4 and Carlton bottom 4

it's time to get aggressive and roll the dice, I'm sick of finishing between 5-10, I want success

I am inclined to be 50/50 with this. I agree to a point that he won't be the difference between a premiership or not. (franklin hasn't even got Sydney a premiership) so anyone suggesting this is being a bit unfair on Gibbs. What I do think will happen with Gibbs is he will play better in our side due to the better players around him taking pressure away from him. He isn't a star midfield general in the mould of what some people wanted but what he is is the much sought after 'icing on the cake' player. He will just add an element of class and composure to our midfield. I wouldn't write off this trade until we see what happens next year.
