ATM, Cooney by a street. Murphy will be a good player who stands out in a crap team.

Gibbs, much too soon to say. He's played 1 game now FFS but if you believe the crap emanating from certain posters he'll singly handedly cure cancer, solve world hunger and cure Carlton's financial woes by selling the loaves and fishes he miraculously generates.
Stands out in a crap team??? Interesting thoughts mate, why dont ya get off ya butt and ask your coach whether Murph would get a game for the Pies, or whether he would have chosen him before Thomas last year in the draft!!! Or perhaps ask Tyson Stenglein of the Eagles what his thoughts are? or Leigh Matthews? Mate, seriously, sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, rather than open your mouth and prove it!!! pfftttt

... cure Carlton's financial woes ....
Um..not sure where you've been, but the Blues now have a billionaire as Pres, have wiped off the so-called debt, are getting huge crowds and $, raised a few lazy mill last week, and have a flood of sponsors waiting to be part of the Carlton success story. We also poached your CEO right from under Eddies nose, because we wanted to. Carlton are fast reclaiming their traditional powerhouse status. Looking at some of the impressive talent on display yesterday, flags 17 and 18 aren't far away. Winning flags at Carlton is our right not a hope. Sit back and enjoy. :)

Good advice, you should consider taking it.

As someone else noted, 3 spoons in 5 years = crap team.

Would Murphy get a game for the pies, probably, but he wouldn't be a walk up start in the midfield like he is at Carlton where they have no one else. Would we have taken him over Thomas, dunno. That's irrelevant to the thread anyway as the point was comparing the past 5 number 1 picks.

I stand by what I said, he's a good player who's played a dozen or so games and stands out in a crap team. Right now, he's not in Cooney's league. In 2 or 3 years, maybe.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Billionarie pres and hit mates tip in some lose change and you think your off struggle street right? You've got more pain to come yet featherface.

Yeah, you poached our CEO. What's this, Carlton trying to be Collingwood? Big deal, you can have him, we had two spares anyway in Walsh and Arroca. May he bring you as much joy as every other person you've got from Collingwood from McKenna, to McGuane, to scotland and cloke.

I wouldn't get excited looking for room for anymore flags in the trophy case just yet, you still need to allow for your matched set of preseason cups complimented by real season wooden spoons.

So what you are saying is that collingwoods midfield is better than Carltons??? Let me see...Buckley (dodgy string, finished), Burns (slow, nearly finished), Licuria (see Burns), Pendlebury (time will tell), Thomas (more of a flanker), Lonie:) (no need to say anything), Holland (goes ok, tough), O'Bree (slow, bad skills), Shaw:) , Lockyer (more of a back pocket type), Johnson (good player)...pleae let me know if I have missed anyone...seriously mate, your midfield is very, very ordinary, Murph might get a game for you guys, I am sure they can fit him in perhaps in a forward pocket!!!! :D :D :D

All of them are guns

Goddard- Stkilda's quartreback. Sets up all their plays and can hit a target over any distance. fantastic player.

Cooney- Has the ability to change a game. When he is hot he is fantastic big year from him. Could be harder at the ball though

Deledio- The quickest out of the 5. With the skills and his pace when he is moved into the midfield will tear it up.

Murphy- This kid has fantastic skills. Knows how to find the ball and what to do with it. Is allready being tagged and even though didn't get many pos on sun he still managed 4 assists.

Gibbs- Raw tallent we all saw what he can do on sunday. showed composure some fantastic skills. has all the tools to be a great player.

I would love these 5 players in my team and luckily i have 2:thumbsu:

It is hard to tell who is better because they all have their own gamestyle. If i was to rank them it would be Cooney>Murphy>goddard>Deledio>Gibbs but they are all still young and it will change over time

I was referring to Peter McKenna the collinhwood full forward who finished his career at Carlton.

He played so well even Carlton supporters have forgotten him.

No they are inconsistent good players.
Very good players don't go missing, but they only go missing because they are young.
With more experience they will become very good, but they are not there yet.
how do you define a good player?
In my opinion it is how much form a player has produced and how consistently they do it IN COMPARISON with all the other players in the AFL
as such I believe they are good players

I pretty much agree. The Pies midfield is pretty pathetic, and the Pies recruiting department responded by recruiting a goal-sneak in 2005 instead of Ellis, and recruiting 2 KP types instead of a midfielder last year. The Pies list management is a source of ongoing humour for the footy community. :)
