THAT'S the whole idea mate.

We need to slow the game down and open it up, and the only way of doing that is creating a scenario where players are trained to run out 120 minutes of a match, without a break.

If we keep the current regime, then we are going to keep the rubbish that passes for modern footy.
You get it

Disagree with this, I like the faster paced modern games as opposed to the slow Dinosaur games from the 70s/80s. Yes there’s a lot of low quality crap but there good is really good and imo more exciting than the old days.

Hocking is trying too hard to go back to that old school style imo
Need to watch the great teams of the 70s and 80 s mate great footy, and dare I say it skills, the stop and prop was gone late 60 s

It's about time the Clubs remember that they make the competition, not a pair of carpetbaggers who have wormed their way into highly paid positions to "manage and develop" the game. So highly paid in fact that Gil is too embarrassed to even reveal the size of his remuneration package. A meeting of Presidents of the key money making Clubs to discuss the direction Gil and Hocking are taking the game would be a good start. Then identify capable replacements for these delusional spuds and either get the incumbents back on track or initiate proceedings to remove them. I have no idea what Gil stands for or whether he even has a consistent vision of what he wants the game to be. He's a man who seems to spout the opinions of the last person he speaks to. He'd make a good Federal or State politician.

What can we do as Richmond members? Can we call for a 3 year hiatus on rule changes or what? Petitions don't seem to work and everyone gets to busy to care. Recommendations?

1) They won't be "dead on their feet", as sides would have to adjust or get beaten (and then adjust). Players would have less focus on heavy running training regimes and their will be a decrease of soft muscle injuries that have accompanied this. There were FAR less of these injuries when the game was slower. It is a result of modern football training and conditioning. Kicking length and accuracy would also improve as players with bigger legs returned to the game.

2) Increase the bench to six.
We'll end up like 50 0ver cricket.
First qtr fast start
Next 2 1/2 qtrs.Slow ass game that would even put the cheer squads too sleep and while viewers at home would have a clear choice of watching the game or mowing the lawns.
Final 15mins be frantic but with that comes more of a chance of soft tissue injuries.
There is a reason i hardly watch 50 overs cricket.Rinse and Repeat and thats exactly what will happen if we go down the no interchange path.

The game is basically 20 over cricket in its current format!

However Steve Hocking wants to spin the "look of the game" he doesn't really give a stuff about that, he really cares about getting 15+ goals a game because then Channel 7 gets more ad breaks, and gets more ad dollars, which therefore makes the rights deals even more valuable and the AFL gets richer. Simples.
Counterproductive. All it'll do is turn people off from watching the game. How long will it take Sponsors/Advertisers to drop off like flies?

Schrodinger's AFL. It is both dead and alive. We must panic and change the rules because fans are turning away from the game except that the memberships, attendance and views have gone up.

If attendance goes up: Hocking's rules did it.
If attendance theoretically goes down: State of the Game, coaches fault.

Hocking needs to be the cat in the famous thought experiment. Locked away from the outside world.
