Rumour Gilbert McAdam arrested over domestic violence allegations

That’s a shame.

I do enjoy Gilbert - and he was a great player.

However....when he was getting included in game coverage and such over the last couple of years...I don’t know...there was this horrible ‘performing black man’ vibe to it. Like he was there as some kind of exercise in inclusion but at the same time confined to a boundary line role with ‘the women’. They’d cross to him for something, and have a giggle as he attempted to contribute in his ‘brother/cuz/deadly’ style etc.

It was weird and just felt...off...

Am I alone in this thinking?

You're not alone my friend.

In Halls Creek the town where Gilbert happens to be from there is a march every year against domestic violence, local women have been campaigning about it for years, just because it doesn't pop up in your Facebook feed it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Honestly "I can't remember reading an opinion piece about it", maybe have an actual think about what you're talking about and who is impacted by it before spouting this "blackfellas get special treatment" bullshit.

Well said.

Gilbert is a genuine bloke...but alcohol has annihilated their whole culture. 😞

You are completely correct, and as is the case with all forced
tokenism it is cringeworthy at best.
This is the world we now live in, the stated aim was once equality,
being given a chance with the the best candidate getting the job.
Now it has morphed into getting the job depending on what is
the colour of your skin. A stark example I read about is the
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scoring in the U.S.
If you are black or Mexican latino you receive a 300 point head start
on the test, and as we can guess this creates a problematic system
to say the least. There are many cases that highlight how this
system has now become the very antithesis of what was once
the aim. One case in particular is where the black son of an
investment banker gets the points but the daughter of a
Vietnamese dishwasher doesn’t.
This is what happens when we start playing identity and gender
politics, we end up with a system that cannot work with the
equality we once strived for.
Unfortunately, this is where we are headed in Australia.

I'm sure the college admissions staff take those 300 points away again when they apply for a spot. Nothing is done on pure scores in the US. There is "discretion" available to them.

Do you have a link for that? I can't find anything that says that happens.

What an absolute crock of s**t.

I see you have not responded with where you got that information - so I can only assume that you made it up and are a racist piece of s**t. You deserve to be banned for that.

I’d never heard of this but once I removed “head start” from my google search and just went with “usa minorities get extra point for college entry” it was about the 3rd article. I don’t know if that’s a reliable source.

It’s a chicken-and-egg situation ...

... what comes first:

(1) a society based on advancement through equal opportunity and merit?

Or

(2) a society where the deep seated foundations of racial bias (eg: white Australia policy, pre ‘67 referendum, etc, etc) are actively deconstructed?

How can you have (2) without (1) ?

The game will always favour the folks who wrote the rules to the game (and their progeny and their mates).
