Essendon has also requested to host Melbourne under lights in a game that will reunite players banned from the Bombers’ injections program in Round 1.

And they got their wish....its official...they get to "reunite" their drug cheating players in a blockbuster under lights...way to go dick head.

Anymore ridiculous and it will be made into a channel 9 miniseries.

ESSENDON wants to mark the historic return of its suspended superstars with a Round 1, Friday night blockbuster in front of a packed MCG next season.
Essendon will invite supporters to march to the MCG from Federation Square as one before they welcome back heroes including likely captain Dyson Heppell, Michael Hurley, Cale Hooker and David Myers.

The timeslot is up for grabs given Easter will likely fall in Round 4 and the annual Carlton-Richmond clash is set to launch the season on Thursday night.
The Bombers have hosted just two Round 1 matches since 2000, the fewest in the AFL, and have started interstate seven times.

“It’s been a long time since Essendon have played a home game consistently in Round 1,” chief executive Xavier Campbell told the Herald Sun.

“We always seem to play an away game, or a game at Etihad Stadium in a secondary timeslot.

“Above and beyond the normal blockbuster requests, we’ve put a request in for Friday night, Round 1.”

“We have flagged Melbourne, because obviously a lot of our games are already locked away.”

The Bombers have annual MCG games against Collingwood (Anzac Day), Richmond (Dreamtime) and Geelong (Country Game) set in the fixture.

In Round 2 about 15,000 fans marched with Kevin Sheedy, past players and board members before the Dons celebrated a shock win against the Demons.

Campbell said the Bombers want to make that a tradition ahead of the club’s first home game every year.

“This request is as much about looking to create a new tradition with our fans meeting at Federation Square and walking together as one to our first home match of every season,” Campbell said

The Bombers believe their 2017 fixture should not be compromised because of their ladder slide triggered by the WADA wipeout.

Carlton was frozen out of Friday nights this year after it collected the wooden spoon.
The Sunday Herald Sun can reveal the Bombers put the request in writing to the AFL this month and suggested Melbourne as its opponent.

That match-up could pit Demons recruit Jake Melksham and trade target Michael Hibberd against their former teammates in a ratings bonanza for Channel 7.

God I despise The Dongs - hijack a few years of focus of the whole comp, flaccid dick Hird poncing around infront of our eyes on every media outlet for months, Jab still recognised as a Brownlow medallist... it never ******* ends.

If the 'reunite' game goes ahead, opposition supporters should make it a sell-out - rock up to the game, and turn their backs on em when they run out!

They have actually come out of the Drug saga fine AFL pretty much saying cheat its worthwhile , Fines of 2 mill (so what all the rich members looked after that at the club ) They weren't gonna win the flag anyway the year they got banned from finals , so the next year they implode get pick 4 and 6 or whatever was, This year get to have a free swing at blooding youngsters without any added pressure , get to try players from others club and get to sign them for next year without having to use draft picks on them, now get 1st round pick , Jab gets to keep his brownlow. lol

Who cares they are still going to be s**t, oppo teams just let them run around unattended this year because they knew they were going to beat them, they had 11 games against teams who were in the bottom six at the time of playing them and still finished last ( brissy only had 6 ), this ' they are getting players back crap so they are going to hurtle up the ladder ' is just PR bullshit, newsflash: everyone is getting players back next year.

One other thing, they barely had an injury this year either.

Well that certainly will be the most boring match of the round. AFL marketing going to have to come up with some creative market pitches to get fans excited.

Tankers vs Druggos - the battle of the campaigner society. :p
