Society/Culture Gillette suggests most of its customers are sexist, predatory, bullies. Good idea?

Are you suggesting that Gillettes main market is women?

Given women do most of the shopping generally, lots of men’s bodycare product ads are directed at women as they’ll be the ones actually purchasing things. That OldSpice ad from a while back is the perfect example

Women don't buy razors for men. Men buy razors and use them until they're rusty and shredding our face. Then we go and get whatever brand it is we already got the handle for.

They're getting destroyed by cheaper shaving alternatives, like subscription clubs. This is an attempt to look modern.

Most guys i know buy there own shaving kit... whatever that might be.
Then again, most guys i know do their own shopping or part of it.
But to say that Gillette advertising is aimed at women... i just dont see it

Weird that the post by someone who implied that women were the people buying Gillettte products has been deleted...
Anyway...A look at the Gillette website shows its very male orientated. Not much in the way of women's marketing on there.

Obviously laughable commercial made by people who just don't get it, (in this case as it turns out a radical feminist and her company) so there's really no need to analyse it. It's nonsense.

More interested in how brazenly Gillette have taken a knife (or razor blade) to their customer base in pursuit of the 'woke' dollars. They MUST have known it would blow up like this and that they would lose out initially. What are they gaining here? Aside from any publicity being good publicity.

A brand boycott is not really my thing, but not sure how else to really combat corporations who are slam-dunking on all men for money, just because they can. Annoyingly I think people will forget about it, but it would be nice if it hit them hard financially.

Also wait for the first #metoo grievance to come out from either Gillette or Procter & Gamble. I'll say... within the month and the accused is a self-identifying male feminist. :$

That's exactly what it suggests. You know, if you live in a land where you jump to gross conclusions instead of actually thinking.

Or what it says, is that you can still be a man and not be a dick. Just by saying no to sexual harassment, no to abuse and no to bullying doesn't mean you're not allowed to be a man. Why is being a man associated with these things? You really think it's manly to talk down to someone or grope a woman because they're a woman? If so then you really need to take a hard look at yourself. You can still have a beard, you can still have a grotesque amount of muscle and still talk with a deep voice.

Honestly..

Tired of everything having to be politically motivated. Pepsi, Nike, Ben & Jerry's and now this. Is all publicity good publicity?
Companies realise they're ******* over workers by not paying enough and citizens by not paying enough tax. It's much easier for them to placate the masses by pretending to be socially progressive on one hand while they steal money with the other.

It essentially just makes it look like they're doing good for society in the easiest way possible.

Correct. And I believe that similar is true for many individuals who virtue signal. Talk is cheap, and is often not backed up by action. An example is the many self proclaimed "male feminists" who have been outed as sexual predators.

Sure. These are things we need less of in society and no, it isn't 'manly', but who doesn't already know that?

Just because those things are valid, Gillette hijacking them and preaching them in an advertisement so they can make a few more bucks is a bit rich. Do you honestly think Gillette gives a * about 'social justice'?

People can see right through it. And the assertion that if people, specifically men, take issue with the ad, they are part of the problem and advocate 'toxic masculinity' is just laughable.

Gillette has woefully misread the play here. It's like they have taken one of their own razors and slit their wrists with it.

I'm not going to disagree/agree about the advert, it's designed to get people to talk about them and buy their products. It will work in some ways and not in others. It's the same as the Nike one etc, there are definitely more people out there who are on that side and that's why the world has progressed for many years (women's rights, civil rights etc)

I'm more addressing the dumb point of view that it's attacking men for being men, when it clearly isn't unless you think the idea of slapping a womans arse is AOK.

They banked on causing outrage among super-sensitive types and MRAs, and they got it. Clever marketing.

The ad makes a premise that there is basically something wrong with men.
Going further it implies men need to be responsible for bad behaviour of other men, to protect women, because women cant loook after themselves

Seems extraordinary that Gillette, a company that made its fortune and reputation on making products for men, makes an ad criticising men as a group.
Cant see how it will increase sales of Gillette products

There is always a few guys like you who dont get it

An ad comes out implying men need to change themselves as a group and then when normal everyday people take offense to it, someone comes along and portrays opposition to the ad as the whinging of sensitive souls and fringe MRAs.

It couldn't possibly because the ad is offensive to men in general and normal people don't want advice on how to conduct themselves from a multinational corporation

Its a clear marketing fail IMO.

Surely you could have thrown incels and MGTOW's in there too. You're losing it bro, lift your game. Anyway, back to listening to some tunes.

Posts like this are the equivalent of letting out a rancid fart at a busy dinner party, then leaving the room. 8/10 troll, would giggle again.

They're received so much attention to the ad already, its clearly working and you're playing right into their hands.
Did laugh at 'normal, everyday people' line though.
