Good news. This is probably the first time I can remember in our history that We have had blokes pushing up to get in the side.

Even with 1/2 dozen first choice players out it means we are starting to get some genuine depth which can only be good.

Gilmore seems to be one of those players who struggles with the transition from WAFL to AFL at times. Has shown some good signs at the highest level but is yet to grab his opportunities, though I'm sure he will get another chance soon.

Maybe TLo handed Gilmore and Murphy the photo's of CC and the goat, that's my conspiracy theory.

Why Siegert ahead of Gilmore?.

Why not Murphy at FF for 100 minutes?.

Siegert is an onballer / tagger where as Gilmour is a defender. Gilmour is vying for a spot with Grover and Woods, I like him and he will get a chance soon.
As for Murphy I fully agree we must have 2 tall forwards on the park at all times Pavlich & Murphy or Johnson.

Gilmore has looked soft in some of his games for Freo to date. His skills are good and he runs hard, but he doesn't like the physical stuff. Siegert validated his selection with a very good performance on the weekend. I'm sure if Gilmores good form continues he will get a run in the near future, but CC made the correct decision in selecting Siegert ahead of him on the weekend.

I'd like to see Murphy get a full game at full forward every week, but he may not be ready to carry the physical and mental burden of being the clubs focal point inside 50 for a full game. By playing on the likes of Mal Michael, Scarlett, the Wakelins etc he may really struggle and his confidence will suffer. In an ideal world we would have an experienced player in the goal square taking the best defender while Murphy slowly develops in the pocket, but that's unlikely to happen until Polak and Hadrill return.

According to footygoss.com it's Mundy that will be getting a call up this week!

http://www.footygoss.com/modules.ph...article&sid=19358&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

I've seen him play in a couple of games in the WAFL and have been quite impressed with how he reads the play. He has a great footy brain. This kids going to be around for a while!

As for Gilmore, well in any of the Victorian sides he would have played 15-20 games by now! He played a few good games for Freo last year, I was quite impressed. But where does he fit in?

Not in the back line or forward line. On the wing is where I'd like to see him. We are always whining about having slow, small, short kicking inside midfielders. At the same time accepting the common held belief that outside midfielders are pansies.

He's tall, fast, a long kick and obviously has some defensive qualities to his game as cc has been playing him as a defender. Maybe that is merely tutelege for his go as a more than one dimensional (attacking) midfielder. He can break lines and presents real opportunities (fast, long and direct) for our forwards. Give him a real go as a reciever and the licence to take risks. Either way rotate him trhough the middle.

I have been told that the main reason why7 Gilmore doesn't get game is because he doesn't beg the selection panel and coaches enough to get a game compared to other players. This is from a prominent member of the South Fremantle coaching staff.

From the information I have heard Gilmore has not got the oppurtunities that others have this year because of his attitude and the fact he doesn't like to be told what to do by others.

Who would you drop to bring him in?

Don't say Schofield as he has just been keeping D.J.'s spot warm.
I'd much rather him than Polak. Polak made me VERY nervous everytime the ball went near him or he had posession of it. His disposal and decision making is WAY off AFL standard. I'd go as far to say that if we were to make the finals he'd have way more impact than Polak would. His mind just isn't on the job.

I thought that Polly had a good game after a nervous start on Friday night.

Probably his best game since his knee injury.

yeah polak at times looks like he lacks footy smarts. dosent know what to do at CHB. i think mcpharlin needs to get in their and show him a few things. he is a great player (good mark)! i think when he develops this part of his game he will be unstoppable back their.

As for Gilmore i dont know who i would take out of the side for him to come in.
ive always said that the FF line is to full with medders and famer there...

Ready to fit in when needed.
Headland to return next week.
Parker to play on Tredrea, Polak on Lade/Primus or Brogan
Thornton, Mundy and Grover to pick up Dew/Chaplin/C Cornes/Damon White or whoever else medium to tall plays forward.

Gilmore needs to either overtake Headland, M Carr, Black, Walker as a midfielder or Thornton, Mundy or Grover as a medium-tall defender. I don't think he's done either.

But great to have him ready to go if needed.

Did you see Gilmore vs Goodes and Thornton vs Reiwoldt?
Care to revise that opinion Dasler? As a rebounding half back/wingman, maybe he has (much easier at WAFL level than AFL level though), but has he got the discipline to shut down an opponent as well as provide the run?

No I don't wish to revise. Having followed South Fremantle for as many years as I can remember, Gilmore is a far better player than Thornton IMO.

The best thing about Thornton playing with Fremantle is that he isn't playing at South Fremantle.

Unfortunately for Daniel, nice young bloke that he is, he is too one sided and he still as he always has tends to have a look at what's coming which is unacceptable in AFL footy. He is one of the several players on the Freo list that are never going to be in their best 22,although there are some who regularly do that shouldn't, and until Freo bites the bullet and moves them on and replaces them with better options they will never be a top Club.
