Thankfully Australia isn't full of soft ***** who get offended at the slightest thing so we can actually concentrate on things that matter like gender equality in the workplace. Of course, I read some stupid article today (well skimmed through) written by a stupid feminist (and most of them ARE stupid in a common sense way) about how if men had periods we'd have period parties. When you read shit like that, is it any wonder why things are the way they are?

Yeah I read that, I'm a feminist and wondered what the feck that was all about. Not having GST on sanitary products...totally makes sense. Talking about how men would react if they had periods...wtf! Nothing stopping them having their own parties if they wanted :).

There's a few blokes on the yonder board that have periods I'm sure of it

Out there in cyberspace there is a very disappointed pervert whose just discovered that his "I'm Feeling Lucky" Google search on "period parties" is not what he was hoping it would be.

If they take GST off of sanitary products they should remove it off of beer for 1 week a month.

It's not about being offended, it's about changing a mindset. It's also not Ollies role to do so.
What mind set? I dont know if you have seen lately, but males and females ARE different!!!

This is NOT a black/white issue, or a Caucasian/Asian issue ... where we ARE all the same. Here we have two different genders that talk differently, walk differently, play differently ... for goodness sake, they even THINK and FEEL differently. So to say that a bunch of burly he-men, playing a man's game, played in a somewhat feminine manner is being politically incorrect is nothing short of dumb in my opinion!! If anyone honestly got offended at at Ollie's comment (which I doubt), they seriously have to go get a life!!

Such a ridiculous beat up!

It's context makes women come across as inferior to men. That isn't something that should be tolerate. What's wrong with using the term meek, weak, pathetic etc etc which doesn't bring into another type of person outside of themselves?

There's not much I can say to such ignorance. Talk about choosing to miss the point.

This has nothing to do with political correctness. Can't stand that term as it's used a cop out so often.

What is a 'somewhat feminine manner'? Soft? Uncommitted? Weak? That's how we were playing, but that shouldn't be described as feminine.

Threads turned to sh*t
Agreed, let's go back to talking about how Graham Cornes said something mean about Port again, and how shocking that is.

Please forgive me but too me it seems this thread has turned into from someone being offended by Ollie Wines' innocuous "girly" comment to people being offended by the people who found Wines' comment offensive.

As the great Stephen Fry said - “It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so ****ing what."

No, that's the whole point ... it makes girls come across as being different to boys!! Softer, gentler, kinder ... they "feel" more, and are not as aggressive! My two girls are gentle, soft, wonderful souls, while their younger brother jumps off buildings with his superman cape .... just different!

Ollie making the comment is not the issue, that it is the prevailing attitude IS the issue.

It's not about people being 'offended' its about changing a mindset so that there is no unnecessary degradation. Much the same with racism and homophobia.

Those who choose not to think of the repercussions cry about political correctness....as if trying to be correct is a bad thing.
You've been brainwashed into thinking racist, sexist and homophobic insults are worse than any other type of insult.

and that aboriginal people/women/whoever lose sleep at night because Goodes was booed or Wines made an offhand comment. Most don't. We shouldn't be expected to cater to the 0.1% that do or the faux outrage on twitter n facebook.

If I posted that xxx was an idiot or fat or stupid would you be up and about? Probably not.

It's a similar if more harmful example of the 'all Port fans are feral' stereotype.

It's not only damaging, but lazy!
What is your problem with people from low socioeconomic backgrounds (ferals)? Sounds like classism to me. Might wanna practice what you preach.

and lazy? Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.
