Really this is pathetic that it's worried anyone. Men in general are stronger then women. Ergo on average women are weaker PHYSICALLY. And it was a direct comment on a physical game.

You'd have to be one of the Twitter crowd desperately searching for a reason to be offended to extrapolate that into Ollie (and by extension Port fans in general) think that means we think women are in any way inferior in a pursuit that doesn't have a high degree of causation between strength and how good you are at it.

When I hear "playing like girls", I think of my child niece, who is an absolute "princess" and I see where Ollie is coming from.

I hope that isn't offensive to princesses though...

No, that's the whole point ... it makes girls come across as being different to boys!! Softer, gentler, kinder ... they "feel" more, and are not as aggressive! My two girls are gentle, soft, wonderful souls, while their younger brother jumps off buildings with his superman cape .... just different!
My two girls, 7 and 9, play like your son. Tough little things but can also be girly.

I don't see what difference it makes
It makes a difference. Because if a man is offended by Ollies comment then something is very, very wrong. I know you are a PC individual but I was hoping you were on your own.

Lol. This shit again. This has nothing to do with political correctness, it's about understanding and being aware of the complex social issues around inferring one sex is inferior to the other with everyday language.

You've been brainwashed into thinking racist, sexist and homophobic insults are worse than any other type of insult.

and that aboriginal people/women/whoever lose sleep at night because Goodes was booed or Wines made an offhand comment. Most don't. We shouldn't be expected to cater to the 0.1% that do or the faux outrage on twitter n facebook.

If I posted that xxx was an idiot or fat or stupid would you be up and about? Probably not.

What is your problem with people from low socioeconomic backgrounds (ferals)? Sounds like classism to me. Might wanna practice what you preach.

and lazy? Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.
Who's the internet tough guy?

Men, generally, are superior physically. This is not opinion it is fact. If it weren't woman would play AFL, Soccer, Tennis, hell even UFC against men. They don't. They never will. Any idea why that is the case?

You inferred. Ollie implied. Except he actually didn't.

Ollie didn't mean anything vicious, obviously. I'm not bagging Ollie over his comments, it's a wider issue than individual comments. It doesn't take a genius to see the wider issue and how his comment wasn't really the best language to use.

I don't have a massive issue with Ollie's comments for the reasons that tribey posted earlier about the issue, but the idea that you can't be offended by sexist comments against women if you're a man is very, very silly.

Most of the people I love are women and I take an enormous dislike to misogynist f***wits.

I hate the use of terms like "PC" to describe people who have a crack at people using this sort of language. If there is a dichotomy of politically correct and sexist f***wit, i'm quite comfortable on the PC side, thanks.

Noted, next time my girlfriend says she's going to be wearing something girly I'll chastise her for her misogyny.

I don't think anyone here is offended by #girlygate. Ollie meant no harm, its a small issue...but...there is a wider problem using terms like girly or gay to denote weakness. A few decades back "abos" or similar would be common in a climate where Nicky windmar had to deal with the crap he did. Thankfully that's mostly being us. Smaller example here but similar general theme. I don't have to be gay to take offence at homophobia or black to call out racism. Its not some niche leftist agenda...its just the 21st century. Get on board.

I'm not offended by Ollie's comments, it'd just be nice if people tried to be more aware of the issue, no matter how minor it appears in the grand scheme of things.

Written by men.

Nope. Advertising industry has a very high proportion of women in creative roles; Art Directors, Copywriters, etc

turn up the hyper-bole

Since we're all talking about annoying standpoints in this discussion...

Either you connect Ollie's statement to the language of the oppressive patriarchy, or you don't. You can't have it both ways with this "I'm not offended by what he said but..." stuff.

As much as you like him, he's an adult man. Either he's in the wrong and should apologise, or it was an innocent comment. You're trying to have it both ways.

Some women still appreciate chivalry

... and this was just getting Julia out of the caucus.

Jesus [Did that offend any Christians?], I leave the thread for one day.

You men [Did that offend any Women?] turn in to a pack of softcocks[Did that offend any men with impotence?].
Arguing and fighting over what words are right to use like some picky Brit[Did that offend any Poms?] getting uppity about grammar and spelling to Yanks[Did that offend any Americans?].

Think you children[Did that offend any Children?] need to go and have a bit of a lie down and settle down[Did that offend any one with anxiety?]

It's as if you can barely talk these days without offending some crowd.

It was an innocent comment which is indicative of a patriarchal society's influence on everyday language.
