Who else wants to see D. Hussey given a go batting higher up the order? No doubt he's done some magnificent work at 5-6 this summer, but I feel he could contribute so much more batting at 4 or even 3, as he does for Victoria (mainly at 4).
His record over this CB Series is amazing, leading all comers with 412 runs at 82 from 8 innings (3 n.o) and 5 50s. Bevan-esque stats, but with a high score of 74 for the summer I feel we haven't seen the best from him. Put him at 3 or 4 and give him the chance to really build a massive innings or two, the sort that we've been crying out for from our top order all series.
Obviously you don't want to rob Peter to pay Paul, but MEK Hussey, Wade and Christian have all shown good to great finishing/rescue mission skills over the course of the series (and over M.Hussey's entire career) - leave it to them!

I would like to see:

Watson
Wade
Forrest
D.Hussey
Clarke
M.Hussey
Christian

But seeing as the selectors think the sun shines out of Warner's arse, he would probably be in front of Forrest (Watson moving to 3).

Your thoughts?

I think it works with him down the order.

he's a great batsman, but he's a tad slower than 3 seasons ago. Once he gets in, he is destructive.

I like him down the order where he can be protected.

Would have been a great at 4 a few year ago.

What people are forgetting is this is d.hussey on the decline :(

SHOULD have been mr cricket junior. M+D Hussey as batsmen should have been better than S+M waugh, but we'll never see that in test cricket :(

Needs to stay down the order to resurrect our innings after the inevitable top order collapse.

As Dan said, it works. So why change it?

Yeah agree this is a massive shame, he could have done so much more... but being played down the order meant he didn't always get a fair go (especially when our top order could actually do something) and hence was the first to be dropped when someone had to come back in.

Leave him where he is. While he is capable of playing the short ball it isnt a strength imo, so if/when they give him one its better with the older ball. Test matches they'd target him with short pitched bowling, almost guaranteed.

Dave Hussey deserves to be promoted up the order based on his ODI performances, but his consistency in producing good innings coming in late in the match and/or when the team is struggling means he is vital in his current role. Guys who can work singles during the middle overs and score quickly are worth their weight in gold in ODIs.

Does it matter??? He bats well at 5 or 6 and has all series. You Victorian clowns are so hard done by.
He believes that Hussey should be given a chance to build more of an innings by being played up the order, rather than having to wait for Warner, Forrest etc. to fall and do a rescue job.

But yes, it's because he plays for Victoria

Hussey is better when we need the runs. We didn't today. Similar to Bevan, where he bats should be dependent on what role we need from him. I would have definitely had Mussey ahead of Dussey with how our innings has gone.

Mussey also does better when we need the runs.

Thats because he's a match winner. Players like this may only fire once every 4-5 games, but when they do its game over. Selectors know this. Glad youre not one.

He has played 19 ODI's and produced 1 match winning performance, you are too easily impressed by the fluffy stuff and lose sight of reality. The truth is he averaged 22.5 before that last game and is a liability.

Youre correct (although now 2 match winning performances in 3 games) and his average at that point did suggest this. Selectors however would have known this too. But there is no doubting that he was going to sort his ODI form out, and that he is a match winner. I wonder what OP thinks of this.

On giving D Hussey a crack higher up the order, I think you could argue the same for Clarke or M Hussey.
