Harry O'Brien has conceded the most goals of any Collingwood defender at around 2 per game, he is a far tighter defender than when he first started but his attacking nature and penchant to sometimes get lost and lose his direct opponent means that he can be exposed at times.

These cracks can be wallpapered over when we are winning well every week and it is a less glaring statistic.

Harry is one of our most important rebounders and a brilliant player when on song, he is very clever where he runs and is brilliant and hard in traffic and quick as lightning.

I think if Goldsack can find that extra 10% he could easily step into Harrys role realeasing him onto a wing or dare i say it, the midfield.

Harry i feel could be such a damaging player from a wing and rotating through the middle, even more than he is now, he would be a match up opposition coaches would worry about as his height and speed is very very hard to match and the right opponent would be few and far between.

I would also go as far to say Harry could develop into a fine clearance player with beautiful ground level skills and a very quick speed burst over the first 10 metres.

If and its a decent IF we can cover him i would love to see others worry about him as a pure attacking player rather than an attacking player who must be also highly accountable and can sometimes get the two mixed up.

Thoughts?

Doesn't read the play well enough outside of the defensive 50 to 70, when chopping off leads etc

He was poor on saturday but its not like he's been rubbish weekly and must be moved in any sense

Not saying he should be moved because hes been poor at all, i think he could be tried differently because i think he has the attributes.
I also have not seen evidence he doesnt read the play outside the 50, Harry cleans up the ball and outpoints opponents in many areas of the ground.

This stat abuot 2 goals per game is media fluff. Pies play positional points not manned on players.

It was 62-35 inside fifties and we kept the Saints to 10 goals. Those stats are normally about 110-65 points. Forward kicking was the weakness, backline was freaking awesome

Moving Harry to the midfield?...is that the plan? Anyway, back to reality, Harry will do better with the experience of the weekend. He lost his composure at times.....although the rat king did push him in the back for that goal...not that I'm complaining because the umpires did a fair job..

If anyone saw on One week At A Time (shit show i know) they showed all the marks Harry dropped that he would normally take, was about 5 or 6 different occasions, Obviously nervous. Hope he doesnt do it 2 weeks in a row.

I've always supported the idea, and was one of the first people on here that suggested it, but it was shot down quite quickly. I respect the opinion of a few Magpie posters and a couple have said he isn't as great at ground level and doesn't read the play well enough to become a midfield, but I don't see this, so I'll accept their opinion and assume he probably isn't good enough for a midfield role, but I loved your suggestion of having a ready-made defender in Goldsack step in and play a carbon copy of Harry O's which would in turn release Harry to a wing role, or even a HF role. Why couldn't he succeed as a HF? His closing speed is freakish, he has strong hands, and is an amazing kick for goal from 50+ on the run. Kinda reminded me of Paul Williams just then when I typed it. Which in turn just made me think we can have a 40-50 goal a season HF!!
