The Good Friday Appeal is a charity that brings together people from all parts of the community to support The Royal Children’s Hospital.

The strength of the Good Friday Appeal lies with the thousands of people who volunteer their expertise, time and talent to organise fundraising activities throughout the year, culminating with an all day telethon on Good Friday.

Over the years, $310 million has been raised to support research, equipment, education, training and patient centred care programs at the hospital. This incredible contribution demonstrates the power of the community coming together to support a wonderful cause.

People get involved in the Good Friday Appeal in numerous ways, through events and collection groups in regional towns and metropolitan Melbourne as well as the hospitals official fundraisers who come up with creative ideas to bring together their family, friends and colleagues. The wonderful contributions from people helps raise funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital so that it can continue to provide first class care for Victoria’s children.

Over 45,000 children were admitted to The Royal Children’s Hospital last year and over 90,000 children were treated in emergency. That’s in addition to the 255,000 children treated at the hospital’s specialist clinics.

All children deserve nothing less than the life saving care and ground breaking research taking place at The Royal Children’s Hospital. Your support helps the hospital deliver the best possible care to patients and their families.

So I ask you, the wider SFA community, to hop on board and show your support to a great cause. I'm sure a few of us have our own personal experiences with the Royal Childrens hospital (I know I do) and can relate directly to the wonderful job the hospital does with ensuring kids receive the best possible care. If you ever get the chance, take a walk through the wards at the hospital for a completely different perspective of life. I know it was a complete eye opener for myself... and yes, a grown man shed a tear or two along the way.

The Filth Wizard has entertained the idea of giving out a badge to those who donate $10 or more and maybe a charity qooty match can be organised at some stage down the line.

I've set up a web page where you can donate to this wonderful cause. Donations of $2 or more to the Good Friday Appeal are tax deductible in Australia.

To donate use the following link:

I've decided to get the ball rolling early to give people plenty of time to save a few pennies.

Let's give that they may grow.

I think we definitely have to get a charity series going.

Despite that, I'll make sure 'SFGFA' badges go out for those that donate $10 and over. It's a sensational cause and I'm very happy to see this as the Season 23 charity effort.

I think every state has a Royal Childrens Hospital. We have had kids in the Brisbane one and the Adelaide one, does this charity help all of them or just the one in Melbourne?

Well I was unaware of that but I'll endeavour to find out.

Yes. I'll still donate, but it is nice to know for us Restofstralians
I've fired off an e-mail. I dare say it will be on a united front but I could be wrong.

Good bloody idea. I'll donate at some point

I'm 99% sure it just goes to the Melbourne one.

Other states don't have the Good Friday appeal like we do

Always donate to the good friday appeal.

And everyone at the royal childrens are amazing especially the nurses they did so much for us with our daughter last year.

Good work Nakia

Good concept Nakia ... some form of charity match would indeed be fun. Should we revisit the newbs match we did a number of seasons back? Take all the newcomers, use 2nd year players as polyfilla, and randomly sort them into two teams for a one-off match?

Wouldn't we be better served drafting anybody that donates like we did with the UGLY and Beyond Blue charity matches of the last few seasons?

Yes true. Or we could auction the new players off to those who made donations.

Could go donators vs newbs if the numbers work.

I reckon this is such a big charity we might manage more than two teams of just donors. We certainly got two sides easily with the UGLY charity.

Also worth keeping in mind this will be open for a while for donations so I'd imagine exhibitions will be played/posted on the Easter weekend.

yeah ill drop a lobster on this
