Isn’t this what the intent of s44 should be?

S44 was appropriate 100 years ago under a nationalist and racist lens. Essentially the only enemy was yellow, black or a colonial threat like the French or German.

Quite hilarious given the monarchy is full of foreign blood and resides over parliament with powers to over rule by dissolving parliament.

In today’s world we have corporates, churches, unions, Lobby groups etc who can undermine our politicians, political parties, government departments and parliament.

So s44 has the right intent but fails to hit the nail on the head on foreign interference and completely misses known bigger risks.

A redraft is definitely long overdue.

Section 44 of the Constitution is critical to maintaining our Democracy, as painful as the results of the democratic process can be at times.

It's not Section 44 that is the problem, it is the resistance to enforcing Section 44 that is the problem.

It does not matter what your heritage or religion is, your skin colour or your sexual orientation; Section 44 says you can be anything you want to and believe anything you want to so long as you are an Australian ONLY. Being Jewish or a Muslim, Christian, refugee, whatever does not preclude you from having to conform with the requirements of Section 44.

And its the only thing preventing the "conservatives" from having to face the fact their economic model died ten years ago.

And what economic model is that?

This should be interesting.

If you shut up and listen, you'd learn.

Well there you have it, falsely labelling someone as a paedo is fine as long as they vote the wrong way

Such moral superiority.

Dunno about "dominated" by, but this was certainly part of Howard and the Libs thinking, import social conservatives.

You dont get much more socially conservative than Muslims from the third world. They wont vote conservative though thats why Blair was ever so keen to import them in mass numbers. Circa 90% vote share. Bingo.

Those things Power Raid, have nothing whatsoever to do with Section44. Foreign interference falls under the auspices of espionage and there are a myriad of rules and regulations, of legislative measures available to WILLING Governments, under which they can take action.

Doing nothing except taking taxation burden away from those who can afford to pay and cutting services to those who cannot afford to pay.

Top 10% of taxpayers contribute 50% of income tax. As for cutting services, they have been big spenders. Abbott tried to do the right thing one budget and the squealing from the usual plonkers was so bad that he gave up.

Does that include the gifts and "welfare" handouts to the top 10% of Australian taxpayers sorry, income earners? All the Tory governments have slashed spending in real terms.

FFS. Go and read the historical budget section of the last budget.

This is about Australian politics Joe Root.

Not some UK Prime Minister who has been out of power for over ten years.

You really trying to compare the current libs with Thatcher? They are hardly Hayek disciples.

Meh similar story. ALP does well with the ethnic vote with the odd exception. Same applies in the US and other countries.

Indeed, that bullshit fell apart in 2008/09.

As for the other bit, I know you don't like here and don't understand the politics, but the Libs have been in power for 15 of the last 20 years ... which have seen the biggest immigration burst in the country's history.

And you come on here crapping on about Tony Blair.

Give it a rest Joe Root.

Real terms meaning that with the spending has not kept up with the increase of people seeking services. This may not be apparent to the snobs.

lol. Real terms means inflation adjusted. This may not be apparent to those who are clueless re economics.

In the decades to come, with our Chinese overlords, we're going to be happy Section 44 is there.

I apologise for not being more succinct in my original post. My interpretation of "real" is what happens in the real world but as you rightly point out, adherents of bone dry economics would of course take it to mean inflation adjusted.

I apologise once again for being below you.

It's hard in the real world with real people trying to get adequate support if you are unemployed or disabled or ill or trying to educate your kids or yourself or trying to access the justice system. We forget what the real meaning of "real" is .... apologies.

Some people are either just too eager to meddle with the constitution because working with in it is just a bit "hard", or just don't comprehend the vital importance it has in our rights as human beings in this country.

Take for example this religious freedom malarky that Morrison and his band of fundamentalist toe rags are banging on about. Section 116 of the Constitution of Australia precludes the Commonwealth of Australia from making laws for establishing any religion, imposing any religious observance, or prohibiting the free exercise of any religion. Section 116 also provides that no religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust under the Commonwealth so we already have Religious protections embedded into our constitution and have had so since 1901!

The zombies who just religiously (no pun intended) who follow the bull s**t that is fed to them by the Murdoch press and the knuckdraggers of the Liberal National Party just don't understand, that bringing in the ridiculous "religious freedoms" legislation proposed by the born-again-supremacist will actually reduce our freedoms. It will allow a minority within in our country to ride roughshod over the rest of us. It is discriminatory, unjust and religious fascism!

Whose side is ScoMo on?
Anyone that's paid attention to Morrison since he entered Parliament would know that he lies and lies and always to further his ambitions.

He is on his side the tiny amount of Pentecostal freaks and zombies that reside in Australia who have done a sterling job in getting even intelligent people to call them "Christians" and hence, whenever anyone criticises Morrison or members of that cult (eg Folau), people leap to the defence of their Christian brethren when the truth is, Pentecostals aren't Christians.

The grounding in the techniques and the advice and direction Morrison has received from his mentor, Brian Houston, in the brainwashing techniques of Evangelical scammers is on show every day of the week. He just blatantly lies without any hint of guilt and plows on with that disgusting born-again pastor grin that people take that to mean leadership: it's not, it's deceit and corruption. He's a fraud and so is his pedophile protecting mentor, Brian Houston.

People should not be surprised that Morrison is defending the Chinese Government mole (as in espionage, not in the Australian colloquial sense) because Morrison doesn't give a f**k who he has "on board" his crusade so long as it does him and his "saved" bunch of drongos the world of good.
