Cox and Embley are too old but Glass isn't? Glass has very severe injuury problems and is likely in his last season. Cox and Embley are relatively injury free and if their careers end soon it won't be because of injury (it will be because a new coach comes on board and moves them on for playing s*** football for a long time). You can't say that Cox and Embley and too old and Glass isn't. Longevity and durability were not the key factors here. The fact is that neither of the other two senior players has a skerrick of leadership ability in them and so Glass had to go around again whether he likes it or not.

As for the rest of your post, you just listed a long group of players that are not captaincy material and why. That proves my point - we have a real dearth of quality players with leadership ability at the club at the moment. That is a problem. And it shows how mistaken Worsfold and co have been in backing the Cox-Embley-Selwood-Kerr-Lynch-Rosa etc era group in the way and refusing to trade any of them out over the journey. They are not leading the club in the way the 25-30 year old group is supposed to or maintaining the quality of their personal performances
like Worsfold insisted they would when he repeatedly dismissed the view the list needed turning over. We should have moved these blokes on when we had the chance. We didn't invest in them like we have and pay them the ridiculous money we are for them to totally fail at the task of being internal leaders at the club.

This time last year Cox was slowly coming back from groin surgery, played round 1 and continued to play even though he was severely underdone and lacked fitness. I suppose he didn't want to leave the entire ruck responsibility to Naitanui. Personally I didn't want him playing as he wasn't ready.

This preseason reports have Cox at the front of the pack in the running drills encouraging his team mates and working hard with NN and now Lycett. Looks fully fit and ready to help the young midfield group get better.

He's a multiple AA, a Premership player and held the #1 ruck mantle of the AFL for several years.

But according to GM he has no leadership ability.;)

He is getting slower and father time is catching up with him but he gives it his absolute best every week and has done for a long time.
To say he gets a free ride every season is crap!

How True. Over the past few years A Selwood has been consistently among our hardest working, most courageous and most consistent players. With the mid-field stars of premiership years gone, he has been forced to play roles not always best suited to him. But in doing so, he has sacrificed his own game and body to ensure some under prepared talented kid isn't getting smashed trying to do that same role. The guy should be shown more respect.

Oh please.

Players that play for free kicks are playing for a game next week.

Still cant forget how he was laughing and smiling after the Brisbane game(shaking all his Brisy mates hands)

Cant get past the feeling that it is all about him and not the team. These types do things that make them look good but really dont help the team because they dont have the ability.

While Im at it I rekon Rosa has learnt a few tricks from Selwood.
eg. Doesnt kick so well when running and carrying the ball so now he just takes a few steps to steady and bingo his kicking has improved.

But in reality hasnt helped the team because he is there to run and carry the ball.

Sorry everyone but A Selwood just really sh+ts me. (o look at me Ive put my head over the ball and been knocked out again.. Yes again) Pick the friggin thing up and handpass it to someone running past....

He's 26 for crying out loud, he shouldn't be getting any slower yet. He's not our worst player but he could be more damaging than he is.

27 in 3 months. The only players older than him in our team are B.Jones, Nicoski, Cox, Lynch, Kerr, Embley and Glass.
Please list any of these players that are not slower than earlier in their careers and could you please list any of these players that you would expect to find career best speed and form in the next year.

Adam pays his way, always has.

The guy is still our best defensive mid and would easily own a back pocket. Hard at it and courageous player but the reality may well be he gets pushed out of our best 22 by the next generation.

Not sure that he is our best defensive mid - I think even Woosha said Scooter overtook Adam last year, and I certainly agree with him - but I think you're spot on that he's a still a very good defender.

They gave him a year to show he could step up to become an offensive mid and it didn't work out, but that's no reason to ignore his strengths. I would play him as a lockdown defender/backpocket, I think he would offer more than Mcginnity in that role at present.
