Injury Glass out for the season.

So much for Glass apparently having nothing wrong a few weeks back. Now it's a season ending injury. Ridiculously naive our club sometimes.

So another succumbs to a chronic groin injury, the likes of which felled Kerr last year and Judd in 07.
We have had a serious problem with groin injuries in the last few years. Cox had the same last season.

I don't know if we are struggling to prevent them or struggling to get our players back from them, but it must be a concern.

Getting really ****ing fed up of the bullshit from the club with regards to our injuries as well. Is Shuey coming back this year?

To be honest I expected as much - you don't miss that many weeks when you have that kind of injury unless surgery is required.

Received criticism when I said the following at the start of May prior to the Hawthorn match when considering thoughts on the squad by season's end and taking into account how inaccurate the injury lists that have been published by the club have been.

"I put Glass down as a potential retiree as I have a feeling that he may be suffering from an injury that won't be able to be corrected without surgery. At this stage in his career, having to go under the knife and come back through a multiple month rehabilitation without any guarantee that his spot will still be available, he may just decide to cash in his chips and give it away. I hope that is not the case though."

The question that has to be asked now is will Glass actually be able to recover from such an injury?
He already is 29 years old, with a body prematurely worn and injury-prone, and now faces a minimum of four months on the sidelines.

At his age four months without being able to run and train intensively is going destroy his fitness altogether and it would take just as long again to build it back up. So it can be expected if there are no complications with the injury (of which there often are when the groin is involved) it will not be until almost halfway through next season when he would be back to full fitness.

Unfortunately with groin injuries there is often permanent damage to mobility that cannot be restored back to what it was prior to the injury. Pace from a standing start tends to be particularly affected as well as the ability to manouvre and change direction at speed. Possibly the best example of what can happen is with Chris Judd - after his groin injury that required surgery in 2007, he has lost a great deal of his previously explosive pace and agility that has since caused him to change the way he plays considerably.

Glass however is much older and was already stuggling for pace prior to his injury. Even if he recovers sooner than expected, he will be slower than before and turn in wider circles. Despite all his ability to spoil in contests, his lack of speed will make him exposed and become a liability to the team.

He won't be first team choice in 2011 (despite how terrible our other key defenders are, they will present a better option), and the only way I see him playing is due to injuries to other players or as a "sending off" match in the latter part of the season if the team is perfoming similarly bad to this year.

Unfortunately, I have a sickening feeling that Glass may have already played his last game for the club. :(

That would be very unfortunate. Similar scenario to Hudghton at Saints. Repeat injuries finished his career off in the end before he got the chance to have a say in it.

I hope Glass isn't done already, although a couple years back, all of us would've expected Hunter to still be around this year.

Nothing shocking here. As an above poster stated, I'm getting sick of the continual spin and bullshit on player injuries. Please tell us wtf is going on with Shuey!!!!

I'm pretty sure we have the worst record in the league as far as these chronic groin injuries go, which would indicate that we do too much running in training? And yet the guys can't run out a game. And the kids haven't put on enough bulk. And we have the longest injury list in the comp.

Warren Kofoed, I'm looking at you here:rolleyes:
