Dead set serious. It was a unanimous (sp??) decision. Ross changed it right there and then when he opened the envelope on stage.

Are you serious?
If thats true, its, well, pretty hilarious actually.

For my mind, Gardiner was a deserving BOG- all our dominance around the ground stemmed from him

BTW, Kenny, I don't suppose you've wrote what i asked for yet? I was hoping to get it done by tonight?

I thought Gardiner was BOG. Fletcher was good, but I do remember coughing up the ball twice (i.e. kicking the ball directly to a Docker), not to mention his direct opponent Bell was nearly as good. Sampi was good, but was no way BOG.

I thought this was a send up but it's true.

The voting was Sampi first, Embers second, Gardy third.

GlenFreoman says he thought the voting was just guidance and that his decision was the only one that mattered.

Pardon me for butting here Ladies and gents but IMHO it is only news because Rosco ignored the wishes of the "Sports Press" and gave it to the rightfull winner.

Thankyou for granting me this small space to put my opinion. :)

They just had The Great Dennis Cometti & Big Bad Bustling Brad Hardie on 6 PR going on about it. Hilarious. They made the points that Gardiner was clearly the best on ground and that Clive had a similar number of possessions to Sampi (I think one less), so if he had kicked straight, perhaps Clive would have been voted BOG by the judges!

Onya Roscoe, it's your medal & I reckon you should be able to give it to whoever you want to.

I dont think Bell deserves the medal when his direct opponent has 27 disposals and 3 goals!

It's no big deal. Gardy was a worthy winner and it could have gone to Sampi, Cuz, Fletch, Embers...anyone of those would have been as worthy as Gardy. But I think the right call was made.

Gardiner was a worthy winner IMO, maybe next time the other judges will just be quiet and let Glendenning choose the winner himself. Its obvious he doesnt give a damn about their opinion. :D

Personally I didn't think Gardiner was BOG (I only had him around 5th or 6th) but I'm happy for Ross to give it to whoever he wants - It's got his name on it.

If today's paper is anything to go by, the journos who voted are as p***ed as newts over Rosco's command decision:
This is not meant to detract from the performance of Gardiner, who has been rated by The West Australian recently as the best ruckman in the competition. He is a clear leader in the newspaper's Footballer of the Year award.

But the consensus among the panel was he had played more dominant matches for the Eagles this year.

Denis Pagan has always said football is a game of opinions and perceptions. That's why with most awards for big games a panel of judges is used to get a good cross-section.
... says John McGrath from the West (link)

Some points that arise from the above:

- the fact that Gardiner has played more dominant games this year does not change the fact that he was clearly (well, by popular consensus anyway) the most dominant player in this game.

- getting five blokes together in a room is no guarantee that you'll get a spread of opinions. Especially when they're all from the same paper.

Well they have a right to be so. Rossdocker rendered their efforts a waste of time. And why should a docker man have sole vote over a game involving Freo? I'm surprised he didn't give it to Koops!!! Scrap the stupid medal and cup, I say. Rossdocker has made a farce of it.
