Maybe I'm just bitter, but somehow I get the feeling us West Aussie footy followers have been screwed by either the Hawthorn hierachy or Daniel Chick himself, and I don't like the feeling

Obviously we don't know the details, but it would appear one of two things has happened. 1) Hawthorn have told Chick they won't trade him, so it's either Hawthorn, or the draft and ultimately St. Kilda. Any player with half a brain can see the Hawks are a more healthy option at the moment. (Sorry Sainter)
or 2) Daniel Chick has used his WA origins and threats of returning to get a better contract. Private threats are fine, all part of the contract game, but to build the hopes of a lot of people in the process is not.
Of course it's entirely possible he woke up this morning and decided that what he'd been feeling and saying was wrong, but I don't think so.

Anyway, believe it not, but I wish him well at Hawthorn, but at the same time, I just hope players remember that footy is a game, and good sportsmanship should still come before business ruthlessness.

But aside from Chick, I think we interstate clubs had better prepare for this kind of thing to happen more often

Please don't take this as sour grapes, it's just a bit dissapointing -again.

Eagle_Fan, I feel for you but jeez I'm glad he stayed, we as many other clubs just can't afford to lose quality players.

I think your being a little naive to think that sportsmanship has any part to play especially when player trading(meat market) occurs. Don't blame what happened on Chick, for the most part I think he was just a piece of merchandice being hawked(no pun) around.

Yeah thats a bummer that we didnt get Chick but i suppose thats football. Now all i hope for is that Gehrig doesnt screw us by jus leaving he owes the club more than that and hopefully we can get someone quality for him in return. If he goes to the Collingwooden then i dont know who we will get cos they dont have much talent. Wouldnt mind Tarrant though hehe

Ive been telling you for weeks that he was not leaving. The main thing that happened is the Hawks won a final and ran last years premiers close. You had nothing to trade (Gehrig and assorted two/three club deals that basically gave the Hawks crocks or duds) and finished out of contention to take him as a free agent in the pre-season draft.

I reckon Dans had a look at where the Hawks are at and where both the W.A teams are and has decided that (at this juncture) the Hawks are in better shape to contest for a premiership in the next few years than either of the 'home' states team.

Add to the fact he will be very highly placed in our B&F and with the Fish's retirement, i also think Daniel will be made a vice-captain. Well all in all his future looks much more assured at the Hawks than it did in the West.

I think 'the Judge factor' has an awful lot to do with all this.

One minute Chick is going because of his "close ties" with Judge.

Next he is staying 'cos he "hates" Judge.

No wonder player-managers are rich sons-of-bitches; we'll swallow any rumour!

Just a point - Chick seems to be suddenly very highly rated by a lot of people who previously thought him "average".

With all these guys threatening and on many occasions carrying it through, teams will cease recruiting players from interstate. There's no point nurchering these guys if they piss off when their senior players or demand huge pay rises.

Seems to be happening at the Bombers already, with Sheeds' being burnt by Wanganeen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we've drafted a player from interstate in the last couple of years, except for Marcus Pickett (Port Adl.) but I think his family is in N.T., where ther is no team to go back to.

Now that's alright for Vic sides with the under 18's and to a lesser extent SA with it's local leagues. However it bad news for W.A., with it's long travel factor and NSW/QLD, with their poor local comps.

You need to grow up over in the west. If Chick had been cynical and wanted to go to Perth that much he could have played badly for the latter part of the season.

Let's not also forget that he was effectivily overlooked by both WCE and the Dockers in the first place, despite the Dockers recruiting ans entire team in (was it 1994 ?)

Ken Judge gave him the start over here in Melbourne but Daniel may have remembered a few chairs flying at players and decided not to connect up.

Also remember many Eagles fans on their website were saying "how good will Ken Judge be with a decent team (WCE) and all of a sudden you're all getting excited about getting Hawthorn players.

It is only a 2 year deal so perhaps He will end up in the west (Judgy could well be sacked by then)

His Family is at North Melbourne, But you scumsuckers took the easy way out as usual.
