Would Bailey be much worse than Khawaja in ODI’s? My view is probably not. Happy enough with that change
There are some very interesting posts that come up from around 2016/17 when you filter your posts with the word "Bailey". A lot of talk about pensioning him off and him being useless or the oppositions best player.

He had a poor first game or two in the Shield. Was good thereafter.

Look personally I would stuff what the public thinks- Smith should be captain but that won’t happen
On top of this, his turn around in form was immediately after relinquishing the captaincy to focus on his batting - making him a specialist captain in a higher grade would be very risky.

Went out last ball = dud

Outstanding game from Maxy, wish he would do that more often.
Along with his batting, he bowled well himself, and managed his bowlers and field brilliantly to strangle the opposition.

Of all the headscratching CA decisions re; Maxwell bowling Head instead of him in those ODI's a while back was the strangest one to me.
Batting at No.7 in 1 dayers is another one.Has to bat 3 or 4,push the ball around in the early overs then lash out after 40 if the team has wickets in hand.He will get a run a ball even in the early overs.Dean Jones was so good at that when he played 1 day cricket.

Lets just hope they do not **** around and waste him too low in order of World Cup. We can still win this with crazy freak like him but we should not with such poor team selections in last 6 months. I'm probably kidding myself, even with Maxy at this best doubt a team with Finch opening and captain can win this World Cup. Just annoyed for sometime selectors have over estimated Finch talents. He is a T20 cricketer of note but the other forms of international cricket too many weaknesses to be given a cemented spot in team. Frustrating as **** to watch on and blow our chances. Like Finchy myself. Do not like selectors over rating him.

I thought Adensaya would deliver a special show yesterday. Maxy was the big show of day instead in hindsight. Entertaining freak!!!

He's not the messiah. Maxwell is a very talented cricketer, but he is also 'mecurial' and all that entails.

Batting him higher will allow him to get his eye in and ensure he's comfortable enough to go hard in the final overs. Coming in at #6-#7 and having to swing from the word go is a feast or famine proposition for anyone.

Maxwell played a big part in the WC win last time, so hopefully he's there again this time around.

As an aside, weird scheduling putting a BBL game at the MCG head to head with a UFC event at Rod Laver Arena.

Potential XI:

Warner
Finch
Smith
S Marsh
Maxwell
Stoinis
Carey

Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Hazlewood

Assuming Smith is fit for the WC I can't see Maxwell coming in any higher than 5th and more likely 6th or 7th. Likely that the selectors will bat Stoinis ahead of him, possibly Mitch Marsh if he plays. If Smith misses you would move Shaun Marsh up to #3 which gives more scope for Maxwell to be #4 or #5.

Our 2007 WC winning side had Clarke at 6 and Hussey at 7 so sometimes good batsmen don't get to bat high in the order.

Do not think Big Bash worried about a sporting event that still only a niche market here.
Well, CA would have to be completely ignorant and stupid to disregard any big-drawing event running at the same time in the same area as a BBL fixture.

I think you underestimate the popularity and hunger for Mixed Martial Arts in Australia, too. MMA is an massive international sport, and Australia is one of the UFC's biggest markets outside of North America.

The last big UFC event in Melbourne (November 2015) drew 56,214 to Etihad Stadium, which is the largest crowd for an event in UFC history, and one of the largest crowds for any event at that stadium.

The event this past weekend at Rod Laver Arena (which drew 15,238 fans) was completely sold out within a few hours of going on sale, and would likely have sold more tickets if they had ran a larger venue as they did last time in Melbourne.

Maxies thoughts

The move down the order drew some criticism from sections of the media, with suggestions that the Victorian's talents were being under-utilised in a batting line-up that sorely needed them.
At the Australian Cricket Awards on Monday night, Maxwell disagreed.
"The way that we're setting up (as a batting unit), I don't think I'm wasted," the 28-year-old said. "The way we were trying to set up our team, it was pretty valid.
"I hadn't done enough to warrant a place in the top four or five, and I missed my opportunities.
"That comes down to me as a player. I genuinely missed my opportunities to play well for my country and play well for my spot.
"They gave me two opportunities to bat second drop before the England ODI series and unfortunately I didn't make the most of it, and I found myself back down the order.
"That can be how the game goes sometimes."

Odd that in today's Herald-Sun they produce an article on Pat Cummins, winning the AB Medal last night, as well as articles on Alyssa Healy winning the Belinda Clark Medal, Marcus Stoinis being the ODI player of the year and Matthew Wade winning domestic player of the year, yet no article for Maxwell winning T20 player of the year. Odd that a Victorian newspaper doesn't praise the achievements of a Victorian cricketer.

They are competing for completely different people. Big Bash is aimed at families and kids, UFC definitely not...

That and how many would be happy the main draw doesn’t even fight?
