Only last 2 games and run out in both.Of the 10 batsman you say are in front of him I presume they have all played shield, test cricket in the last 6 months which he has not had the chance to do.

Where does this come from ??? he has played 2 shield games this shield season ...4 innings 126 runs HS 57 ave 42

Did he take his opportunity and dominate and score a hundred?.....no he did not

Played only 1st 2 shield games, the 57 he was unluckily run out at the bowler's end after a deflection on to the stumps by the bowler.I think you are being a little harsh there. We will know more about Maxi and a few others that will be playing county cricket in England in the up coming season when we talk of the final ashes squad.

No I don't think I am being harsh at all in regards to Maxwell. I understand what he brings when in form in the ODI arena...he is a jet and can be a genuine matchwinner....that does not mean he is immune to criticism

He needs runs and quickly these next 3 ODI's are very important …

A precedent has been set by the selectors S marsh was dropped only recently after 3 poor innings before that scoring 4 hundreds in 8 innings....Maxwell has not made a significant score in the ODI arena for some time

He has played 2 Shield games....Maddinson came back and scored 3 hundreds in his 3 shield games back....that's what Maxwell needs to do..when given an opportunity he has to make it count ...its as simple as that

Maxwell is in the one-day team partially for his batting and also partially for his bowling. He doesn't "need runs" as much as other batsmen to justify his place in the team. Regardless of how many runs Khawaja, SMarsh and Warner (and to a lesser extent, Smith and Finch) score, they aren't directly competing with Maxwell for a spot in the team.

Crap he needs to score runs to justify his position

finch just bowled 10 overs the other day...….Smith can bowl and so can Warner

He is in trouble if he is not scoring runs....its simple as that ….his bowling is not going to keep him in the team

None of them are going to replace Maxwell. Turner is the only one who can score quickly but he can’t bowl so he’s out. Smith and Warner are top order batsmen and Marsh is more likely to replace Stoinis.

Averaging 40 in England, did well there last year and even in those 14 innings without a 50, there were a few 40s and 30s in there and all at a good rate.

Fact is Australia have no one else who can offer the all round package, quick scoring, gun fielding and handy bowling.

No one cares about what state the guy is from.

General consensus has it that he has been relatively hard done by in recent times.

What a superstar!
Game 1 versus Pakistan: 10 overs, 1 for 57 and did not bat
Game 2: 19 from 15 balls, 2 overs, 0/11
Game 3: 71 (55), best strike rate of any batsman, 5-0-21-1
Game 4: 98 (82), best strike rate of batsmen who faced more than 2 balls, 8-0-41-0, man of the match
Game 5: 70 (33), best strike rate of Australian batsmen who faced more than 2 balls, 10-0-45-1, man of the match again

If there were any doubts of his place in the ODI team, they've been put to rest for now.

And just a couple of months ago they thought batting him at 7 was a great idea

The obvious criticism that can made of Maxwell is that his (career) average is not as good as his teammates. Which has now improved a little given the last three innings of 71, 98 and 70.
If there was a strike-rate-for-average swap machine, it would be nice to swap some of his strike rate (120) for a slightly higher average.

If Langer thinks Maxwell has the potential to be as good as Kohli in 1 day cricket and should be aiming for an average of 60 in this format of cricket bat him at 3.Batting in the last 10 to 15 overs he has to play the risky shots and no way will he average 60.

JL's recent comments show he's definitely warmed to Maxwell. He couldn't stand talking about him whenever his name came up a few months ago. I reckon apart from seeing him up close in some great knocks recently they've probably had a few conversations and bonded a bit.
So I reckon he'd be a good smoky for the Ashes now too.
