Man Utd 3 Vs 0 Birmingham...that just goes to show how far ahead of everyone else man utd are. birmingham were unbeaten this season prior to the utd game and had kept 5 clean sheets in 7 games... not a bad effort but when they came up against quality opposition as they did last nite they were left wondering what went wrong.

I thought Birmingham were unlucky not to get one goal. Their effort deserved it - much respect for them going after United during the opening minutes of the second half - they were down to 10 men and could have tried to shut up shop. Oh, and can someone tell me why Arsenal sold Upson?

I didn't think that United were that great. Fletcher did a few nice things, Scholes was United's best player and our only creative avenue. Fortune had a good game too. But for most of the first half, Birmingham were able to stifle United's attempts to create goalscoring chances.

Aren't they all? Not even a response out of any of them when our fans were singing "no-noise from the cockney boys" and "we support our local team" last night! Most of the singing through the game was from our fans (as usual), I think the plastics may have worked themselves up into a song 2-0 up and 75mins gone. They further enhanced their 'reputations' after the game by joining up with the GMP and the stewards (who I implicate by their inaction) and attacking our fans as they left the ground. Pathetic. Must have been upset at our vociferous support ...

Nah, I'm alright mate, just glad I'm not part of such a pathetic group of bandwagoners. I don't give 2 sh*ts about Man Utd (my hate is reserved for the Vile & Dingles) but geez for the way Red Devils fans build themselves up the comparison with what turns up at OT is laughable. Mind, I think they might regret having a go us 'noses though, St. Andrews isn't always the friendliest place to visit and they will have made sure the welcome mat wont be out when the plastics come to town ...

Walk up to a United 'supporter' and asked them if Becks had a good game against Birmingham, and see your response.

Arsene Wenger's Magic,
He wears a magic hat.
And when he saw THE DOUBLE,
He said I'm having that!

More to do with some of Mr Nolans comments in the other threads re: sending off and the ref.

Needle in a haystack job with the 'fans thing' though.

Becks was magnificent yesterday I thought. Worked hard, delivered telling crosses. Top stuff.

I thought Becks had a great game, some fine crosses that eventually led to the 3rd goal.

Must be that skill that won him his European Cup Winners medal.

LOL, true! The other classic is the non-plussed look you get when you ask them "United or City?" when they tell you they follow 'Manchester'. Man Utd fans should have to wear a badge stating when they started following them and whether or not they or their family come from Manchester. Any date post 1992 and a negative to the second point and they can be herded in with the rest of the cattle and branded 'bandwagoner'.:D

FWIW, I thought it was a very harsh call. A penalty is a dagger, sending him off was just insult to injury. It was most definitely an attempt on the ball - if you look at the timing, Taylor attempted the save before Scholes changed the direction of the ball. I suppose an argument could be mounted, that he did not take away Scholes' opportunity to score, as a penalty would've been rewarded even if it were called a foul, or yellow carded. To the letter of the law, perhaps it was a send-off, but it certainly wasn't against the spirit of the game.

D'you honestly believe Tim Howard would've been sent off if he'd done the same thing? I can't say that I do, Read would not have had the bottle to do it. Teams like Blues continually get crucified by the refs against the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc. If Dugarry had got one free kick for the continual kicking he copped all afternoon maybe I wouldn't be so cynical. If Man Utd had to put up with the rubbish from the refs that we do each week you'd be as miffed as meself ...

From what I read somewhere, there was a ref's assessor or something sitting in the stand. He had no choice but to apply the letter of the law. Last man, denied Scholes the opportunity to score (yes he had to go for it, but **** happens). I was a little surprised he got red, but rules are rules. If it was a defender in the same situation i'm sure you'd have no issues with him seeing red.

As for Tim Howard, well, he would've got to the ball :p. What happened to Nico Vaesen anyway?

I know that the rules are the rules and all that, but ref's assessor or not I honestly don't believe that if Howard, Lehman, Cudicini or Dudek had done what Taylor did that they'd have been sent off. That is what p*sses me off, there are ref's assessors at most games and yet time and again goalies from the big clubs don't get sent off for doing what Taylor did. You might think I'm a cynic but if you were a Blues fan who has seen his team get screwed by refs time and again in games against the 'big clubs' you'd understand. If it was a defender in the same situation it would've been a tackle from behind anyway and a straight red. Same result but different offence really.

As for Nico Vaesen, he did his knee in the 0-2 win aginst the Gravelly Hillbillies at Vile Park last season. His recovery is going well and he says he's not far off being available for selection, but he's going to delay his comeback until the knee is as 100% as it can get. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later because Taylor is now banned for the game against the trash from the other side of the Expressway.

Loud Bimingham fans?

Interesting that the Birmingham fans were singing United's "We're the pride of all Europe", "Tra-la-la Ruud Van Nistelrooy", and (as they always seem to perversly do), a couple of Gary Neville songs.

But hey, if there's some sort of noise coming through on the TV, it must be Birmingham fans, hey?

Not that Birmingham ever had the best of reputations either.

Sure, the United fans sang those songs, 75 mins gone and 2-0 up!:p About the only thing I heard from the MU fans before then was the "United, United" chant which ain't really a song is it. Most of the songs I could hear were definitely Blues songs (mainly 'Keep Right On') As for our reputation, granted, but we are nowhere near as bad as we used to be, I'd say Man Utd's firms are far more active than the Zulu Army is these days.

The "Champions! Champions!" chant got an airing too, but without too much disrespect to Birmingham, it isn't the sort of matchup that United fans are going to get too worked up about when it comes to the songs and chants. We just don't have any reason to hate you guys.

I didn't think Birmingham were any louder than any other set of fans (from clubs that aren't our blood rivals) that have visited Old Trafford.

Still, whilst Old Trafford's atmosphere has been better in recent years, it's still nothing compared to the 60s, 70s, and 80s....but then again, is any club's atmosphere a patch on those days?

I don't think any of the firms are as active as they used to be. Certainly nothing compared to the 70s and 80s.

The old Leeds Service Crew came into action at a friendly at Hull earlier this season, haven't heard of anything like it for years.
