Seems to me we need somebody who knows a bit about coaching, a bit about recruiting (they’re the two main functions of the football dept) and who has some admin senior management experience.
Think they are looking for someone who has had senior coaching experience by the sound of it.
Richardson had the list manager / recruiting experience but it seems that was a sore point between him and Dodoro. I think it is fair to say Dan fell down in the knowledge of coaching part and the experience to hold the ship together under pressure.

Agreed what you are saying, but who have been the best football managers? Balme of course would be number 1 and he had previous senior coaching experience but is such a smart operator to not step on the toes of the senior coach when representing the club.

Who are the others though? And do they have previous senior coaching experience or are they pure football managers?

Dave Noble at Brisbane. Came from the crows where he started as an assistant before moving onto list manager and head of football. Was also an assistant at the Dogs and coached Glenelg in the SANFL. Played a couple of games with Fitzroy in the 90's.

Geoff Walsh at the Pies. Back for his second stint. Was GM of football at North from 1994 to 2006. Then at the pies from 2006 to 2013 before another stint at North and now back to the Pies. He had roles at Carlton and Fitzroy before that.

Graham Wright at the Hawks who obviously was an ex player with the Pies and was the Hawks list manager before moving up to footy manager.

Charlie Gardner at the Swans. Another ex player and a lawyer.

There seems to be various football backgrounds.

Barney no fan of Campbell and dodoro
calls a spade a shovel

Simon Lloyd seems to have had a wealth of experiences. Though he may well replace Xavier.
a few from left field-
luke ball was apparently very well regarded before he was cut due to COVID
nick Maxwell has had a good grounding and is a strong leader
andy Collins is a school teacher, strong coaching background and experienced a lot of success
