Watching against both richmond and st kilda, Collingwoods on-ballers are laking and they are not quick enough. lets get akermanis, he is only 28, and i watched him on sat night against the demons, boy he is quick! Something the pies need, I would love him at the pies. If we are to wina flag we need players with pace. Aker would be perfect for us. But the question who would we give up??

There is no doubt im gonna get replys on here from people saying we dont need him. Just remember he could get us a premiership. We are that close.
We are a good side there is no doubt about it. Aker would just be the player we need. Great skill, QUICK, and he can talk the talk and most times can walk the walk.

What u guys and gals think?

Cheers

It's simple, and most (well, everyone but James Hird) who has been asked the question who plays, or has played at the highest level, has said he is a great player and would be a great asset on the field, but as mentioned, the baggage that comes along with him is too great.

Look at Brisbane this year. They have struggled that much off the field due to the relationships etc.

are we really that close to a premiership? I'm not sure that we are. by drafting acker we'd have to 100% believe that we can win a premiership sometime in the next two years when age most probably hasn't caught up with him.

to get aker I couldn't see Brisbane taking anything less than our first round draft pick or one of our marquee players, if not both. this is a massive committment to make and IMO an enormous risk. we'd be giving up a pick in this years super draft for a 28 yo star who carries an enormous amount of baggage with him.

even if aker pulled his head in and played 3 years of super footy for the Pies, if we didn't win a premiership in that period IMO the trade would be considered a failure. We would then be looking at a hole in our list created by the trading away of draft picks 3 years earlier.

remember the debacle that the tiges went through in the late 90s and the hawks in early 2000's? if we trade for aker I think those situations are what we are more likely to encounter than premiership success.

Problem is who we give up for him. We are only just rebuilding a team of youth, and another 28 year does not sit well alongside our already largish list of 28+ players.

I'm not totally opposed, but unless Brisbane are prepared to accept Lonie or Davis (or maybe Richards) I dont know who we could trade away that would be acceptable to them. I just dont think we'd have the negotiating coin and I would not want to give away a 21 year old. Remember what happened last time we picked up a 28 year old from Brisbane. We gave them 21 year old Mal Michael.

Yep. I’d love to add him to our list but if the draft is as good as predicted then he ends up very expensive. They wouldn't be interested in Richards at all and they don't respect Leon or Lonie. Our best bet would be to do a trade elsewhere and on trade the picks or get involved in a 3 or 4 way deal but even then it would be a big ask.

He's off contract, if he puts a massive price tag on his head, we could be the only club that could afford him in the pre season draft.
I thought he was under contract for 2007? I may be wrong and if he isn’t contract Sydney would probably get him in the PSD if he lasted that long. I’m assuming Sydney don’t finish above us. Essendon or even Carlton would take him even if they had to clear some cap space which I doubt. Other clubs would also have the cap room I suspect.

Collingwood will not recruit him at all. He is turning 30 next year! Mike was asked on SEN and he said that would go against what the pies are all about! Plus, they wont wanna dish out the $$$ for him. Last year they went for the following players and didnt get any of them

Johno Brown
Shannon Grant
Jeff White
Luke Power
Joel Smith

I would like to think he would be a good addition to our midfield and moving forward, would take pressure of burns and licca who are rotating through the middle and forward.

I would rather not have him, though his skills are good, he is not getting any younger and he has the additional baggage. Rather keep getting youth in.

After attending the Geelong V Collingwood game. I disagree with you mate. You guys have a lot of pace. Made us look very slow. But Akermanis would be a rather handy pick-up for you guys!

Forget it. The future will be built by the kids we select now, not by players in their twilight.

Acker will be 29 next year. He' probably got 3-4 years left. If we took him, everyone would be complaining in a couple of years about why we took him instead of going to the draft...
