Run a simulation on the latest AFL video game and play it on the big screen before the Grand Final...

Might fetch around $10 at Cash Converters.

Even then, they'll probably tell you "We've got plenty of those".
I also feel that every player who represented the third placed club should be given a signet- so there's about 35 a year.

people are pooh- poohing the idea, but after five years it will be simply seen as a normal part of the finals.

i would go to spotless on Thursday night to see Giants v cats third placed playoff.

Nothing to do with brownlow night-

let's have a third placed play off.

I know it's disappointing for players to miss out on the granny, to 'miss it by that much,' to quote the late great Maxwell Smart (who not a lot of people know was a bombers fan.)

The best thing is to get back on the horse, and play for a bronze medal. It happens in the World Cup Soccer and many other play off sports.

Grand final losers are sent a silver medal in the post, to prevent any of them throwing it in the Yarra or giving it to a kid.

Could be a Thursday night thing- free entry for the real fans.

Thoughts?
Nuhh
It's about the flag. Without that motivation I'm sure the players would rather have a little more "me" time. Even for a supporter the season is draining and when it's over it's over.

No offence but this seems like an idea dreamed up by a supporter of a team that just lost a prelim..

Horrible idea .

I dont like the idea, but it's not stupid. Other than the Hong Kong Sevens which has a tradition of losers going into a different draw and is unique, it's only the Olympic team events whete there's a bronze medal that should do it IMO.

Yeah pretty sure the players would want no part of this.

Once your seasons done (especially after a prelim loss) I dont think you could get away from footy fast enough, and a match for 3rd place isnt enough of an incentive to change that.

Now a State of Origin exhibition game may have more chance - but even then in this professional era, unless the AFLPA pushes for it, i reckon clubs and most players would just rather have the extra week holiday

They are given out in the rooms after the game and most never leave the change rooms. There is no second or third place in footy, how would you feel if Danger or Selwood busted an ACL in a bullshit third place play off?
