When he does lose, will he blame the heat? Or call someone a '*******'?

No he has never won the Australian Open.

On todays performance I think he will struggle to do it this time too.

Isn't it great :D

Played quite well last night!

Only 21 unforced errors.
Got 64% of his first serves into play and of those he was a massive 92%.

Great stuff :)

Give me Lleyton Hewitt anyday over Mark Fall-To-Pieces!! Choosing Mark ahead of Lleyton is like choosing MacGill over Warne in the cricket.

As for Lleyton's chances in the tournament, it's not necessarilly a bad thing that he's not playing well at this early stage as long as he gets through his matches ok.

C'MON LLEYTON!! :D

His recent form being......

He lost a couple of matches to reasonable oppostion in the Hopman Cup ****ing contest in the first hit of the season.

Prior to that, he won the Grand Slam Cup.

Yesterday he only had his serve broken once. To a former top 10 player with a cracking forehand. Larrson would have beaten nearly anyone yesterday.

Man, I wish my recent form was on a par with Lleytons.

It's amusing how people are prepared to crucify a guy for life for a few boorish things done before the age of 20. Of course, everyone at BigFooty were paragons of maturity in their teens. Lleyton's moved on - other people should too.

Get off your ****ing high horse
You don't have to choose a favourite player just because they are the best.
If that is the case for you, then you are a Brisbane fan and a ****ING bandwagoner.

If you choose to go for a player that loves kissing his own image on a mirror, then thats your problem

And he won't win the Australian Open.

I have disliked the guy from day one, and that still has not changed.

He might be Australian, and when he plays Davis Cup and he is playing I go for Australia.
But on the tennis circuit he is playing for himself. No one else but himself.

Well i'd prefer to be in Hewitt's shoes than anyones on here, its all good fun to bag him out on an internet messageboard but hes more successful now than any of you will be when youre 50.

Go Hewitt, love ya mate

You’ll see what I mean, Murph.

Obviously, though, Lleyton will improve rapidly as the week goes on and Lleyton plays more games. I just don’t think he is currently the most in-formed player – ATM.

Magnus is an old bugger. There are many players better than him. Thinking about it, there are better Swedish players than him.

Hewitt doesn’t have a good record in the Australian open, anyway. Agassi, the number two seed, has an awesome record in the Aussie open, and it will take something special to beat him. Hewitt’s current form would lose to Agassi in about four sets.

I can understand why people don't like Lleyton, mind you I reckopn he is fantastic. However people preferring Mark PhilliPOOsis are kidding themselves, at least Lleyton's proud to represent his country.

But as even POO is an Aussie, I'll still support him against all overseas players. If you need to get stuck into tennis players Roddick would be my first port of call, arrogant prick who believes he's much better than he is. You can be arrogant when you have actually won something worthwhile!

Tall poppy syndrome much?

my thoughts exactly...

Got to see the first set yesterday (had RLA tickets for first two days and first night), had to leave to catch the train, but I was happy to see him play for the first time ever anyway. Thank God he won the first set, I would have been ****ed had he lost, after waiting for that damn match beforehand which should NOT have taken 2hrs 6mins.

I don't see how or why people can justify him only playing for himself and not his country, every person who knows him says he's the most Australian and patriotic bloke they've met.

Luke, I didn't quite hear you on the phone yesterday, did you say "I hope he loses cuz you're there, that'd be funny." ? bastard  :D

GO MARKY MARK!!!

MY BLOOD IS BOILING !!!!!!!!!!

These people who continually hold Hewitt to things that happened when he was in his teens need a kick up the backside.
You are so pathetic. Sure if he continued on like he was a while back you would have every right to want him to lose but he hasnt done a thing wrong for quite a while now. He has matured unlike another certain Aussie player.
Which brings me on to mandy5, how pathetic ! You are such a hypocrite !
Philipoussis the man (still a little kid in my books) who even well into his 20s carried on like a spoilt little sook.

- "I hate Rochey coz he sat in Rafters box at the us open when he crunched me in the final" - UM, der, he was rafters coach !!!!

" I wont represent my country in Davis Cup all the time, only when they are in the major part of the cup such as semis or finals but when it comes to qualifiers like at mildura against Zimbabwe I wont play"

"I am a spoilt brat who drives around in fast cars rather than give my all for my country"

"I wont play in the kooyong exhibition due to a soft injury" - never forget that one when the crowds were furious with him and so too was the organiser.

Hope that makes it clearer. Hewitt unlike soft philipoussis gives his all for his country and doesnt carry on like a little kid now, sure he did in the past but he was 16 when he made it big for god sake ! Philipoussis was carrying on like it well into his 20s.

The bottom line is that you lame hewitt haters are trying to hold him to things done in his teenage years, even though he has grown up and I am sure it is no coincidence that he is number 1 due to his new attitude. Keep holding him to things, you are the ones that are looking like the fools that you are.

Mark would love to represent his country. He had problems in 1998, but if you remember he took us to victory in 1999.

Since then he has had injuries non stop.
So selfish of him thinking of his own health before playing for Australia

Umm Actually I am fairly sure he was the Davis Cup coach or captain. I don't think he has ever been Rafters direct coach.
Point is really that Roachey should be been neutral in such a match.

" I wont represent my country in Davis Cup all the time, only when they are in the major part of the cup such as semis or finals but when it comes to qualifiers like at mildura against Zimbabwe I wont play"

This happen in 1998 did it not? Yes. In 1999 Philippoussis suffered injuries, only to win the Davis Cup final for us.
Since then he has had non-stop injuries and has been unable to gain some momentum. He will play Davis Cup this year (knee injuries permitting).

"I am a spoilt brat who drives around in fast cars rather than give my all for my country"

Sold all his cars, sold his place in florida, moved back to Melbourne to concentrate on tennis. Next

Go into the match and risk further injury? Or rest and make sure you are as fit as you can possibly be for the Australia Open (GRAND SLAM EVENT).
I know which option I would take.

Philippoussis hasn't 'carried' on in a long time. Media beat-up aswell as ****ers like you holding onto the past.

He is an excellent tennis player. No doubt.
I just don't like his attitude (hasn't changed as much as you think) and the way he goes about his tennis (COME ON!! 1st game into the first set  )
