I know he has only played one game, but what Drew Petrie showed last night, I thought was pretty impressive. More importantly, when the game was there to be won in the last quarter, Denis kept the young kid in the ruck. You guys could be on a winner there..

I was also impressed with Daniel Harris, Troy Makepeace and Brady Rawlings showed a bit as well.

Jesus, did I watch the wrong game ?
Petrie showed a bit, granted, but nothing special. Time will tell.
Rawlings & Makepeace were their usual inept selves, Makepeace particularly.
Harris was sensational for a kid, and he reminds me so much of Archer. Could he be his clone ?

Petrie, Rawlings Makepeace and Harris, were all fantastic last night, they did what they had to do when they had to do it, they are only four players of eighteen on the night, Sinclair did his bit as did all the players. David King seems to have something extra this year, although you wonder if he could get any better, he just keeps on keeping on. If Rocca can kick those four goals for us each week we will be laughing, and Carey was on his own which was great to see.

A comment on Sav. It was good to see him chase and also to see him get that great mark over the pack. But there was one thing that impressed me immensely.

It was that goal he got from straight in front after a pass from Carey. Firstly, he snuck away from his marker...it shows he was thinking about giving another option if Carey (or any other player) needed it. Secondly, the way he took the shot. Most Collingwood fans will tell you (and from my own experiences of seeing him play) that he's great from 50m, but a dud from straight in front. He usually looks so nervous with the easy shots. But last night, he just went back, lined up, and put it through....his goal kicking action was so smooth and fluent, and without a hint of nerves.

The future's bright. The future is royal blue and white.

yes you did watch the same game. You must have been wearing your pessimism-spectacles again.
For a young kid playing his first game in a hot situation, it was impressive.
Impressive enough to give some supporters Hope for the future anyway!
I think thats all some supporters are trying to express in these posts that you jump on for being too optimistic.

Furthermore, if there was a clone running around he would surely look like w.carey.

I just read your post again.
God you are hard on makepeace and rawlings.
I hope you are a flawless performer in your choosen profession to expect so much from others in theirs.

CIK is only happy when Corey plays badly. Rawlings is what we need. He showed enormous courage and the way he ran down Rhyce Shaw was fantastic.
With Rawlings, Smith, Harris, Sinclair and the more midifeld orrientated Motlop, we now have the speed and skill to damage others.
Go rooboys!

Moti,
If that were true, I should be deliriously happy today. He played like the crock that he is. 1 mark & 5 kicks in a winning side. Think about what that will mean when we come up against a side with a real ruckman.
CHF,
Am I too hard on them, or are you too easily pleased ? As I recall, Makepeace cost us at least one goal with his poor decision making.

As a counter balance, since you all like to read positive stuff all the time, I will go on record saying early indications are that I was wrong about Rocca. He is shaping up as a good pick-up and he certainly looks fitter and invigorated.
Further Harris & Smith (in the first game), impressed me greatly. Petrie looks ok too. I look forward to seeing Smith.
(In keeping with the positive tone of this post, I will not mention Bomb-it-and-hope-for-the-best-Sinclair or The-invisible-man-McLaren.)

I thought Makepiece did okay and a few times I thought he is actually pretty good. He always came across as just a footballer but the more I see him, the more I like him.

Harris was very good. Very good. He has excellent hands and vision and knows how to get the ball. He was blowing a bit of wind towards the end of the last quarter but his stamina will only get better.

Petrie was very promising, particulary in the last quarter when Denis left him there.

The first quarter was better than anything we did for the entire last year but the second bought back bad memories. Overall a good team effort and things are looking pretty good.

CIK I agree that the SKULL did give away a goal but then so did Byron . The Skull did what he had to do he was not playing on anything special so granted he should have made more options when we ran out of defence.

Apart from Brady's floaters I was very impressed with his game he looked in control of all situations .

As for G.I Joe Mclaren far too much bench time if he is to spend 3 out of 4 on the bench then pick him in the 2nd's.

I made the same comment as you CIK that Daniel "HARRO " Harris is Archers little brother and that is scary two of them in the same team.

Sinclair looked to settle down in the second half and control his disposal which is good because he is an asset.

Corey well he NEEDS to take those marks because there is no way he will play a full season if there are three games like last night in a row.

How good is Colby going, the last two games he has schooled the opposition and the best is yet to come.

The Big Hairy one is looking good I was very worried when they read out pick 30 but not getting too excited if he does that - 4 goals + this year say 6 times we may have got a good deal.

Kingy is looking like he is Syd Barker Bound this season .
All in all the night was a good one with many positives and few negatives I dont know about you guys but we have got something to prove this year and we have started well and it is along way to go but it feels like 1999. Lets hope so.

Go the Skull !!!

Yeah, McLaren has been very disappointing so far. I really did think that he'd do well for us, but by the same token, I'm not prepared to write him off just yet.

The bomb it long and hope was used last night, but there was a also a bit of precision passing and some glorious running goals. It seems to me that Pagan has given his midfielders a bit more license to look at other options for goals.

The roos tended to be a little top heavy in the forward line with Rocca, Carey, McKernan and Lange all there. There seem to be a lack of crumbers to compliment them.
Hopefully that will be rectified with the return of Abraham, D. Smith and Motlop to the side.

I was absolutely delirious with Daniel Harris... and they say Dylan Smith is even better... who was Peter Bell again????

and Drew Petrie showed enough...

Sav... I stirred a few pieboys up... by asking does he normally get that high or was it something that he could only do when he played at a decent weight...

CIK,

I thought Rawlings was fantastic, showed tremendous courage and a lot of poise under pressure.

As for Petrie, he was humiliated by Rocca when he first came on but his last quarter was ok against an out of sorts Fraser.

As for Makepeace, he is still a battler and why on earth is he taking the kick ins.

As for Harris, is he Anthony Stevens with skill????? ... he looks an even better prospect than Smith to me, although it is way too early to tell.

You are a hard bastard by the way.

To answer your question Kymhodgemansmo .
As for Makepeace he is still a battler and why on earth is he taking the kick ins?

I dont think it is all that bad of an idea the Skull taking the kick ins, He is a accurate kick and one of the smallest blokes on the field. If he can kick it to Choppy or Kingy then their second kick puts us nearly in of not in our 50m. I agree he is a battler but he is battling away at becoming a 150 game battler.

Go the Skull !!!
