Who will be our main goal kickers in 2015?

Here are our top 10 goal kickers and how many goals they averaged a game.

1 ~ Travis Cloke 39 ~ 1.9
2 ~ Jamie Elliott 33 ~ 1.9
3 ~ Dayne Beams 23 ~ 1.2
4 ~ Jesse White 20 ~ 1.1
5 ~ Steele Sidebottom 14 ~ 0.7
6 ~ Scott Pendlebury 13 ~ 0.6
7 ~ Jarryd Blair 12 ~ 0.6
8 ~ Dane Swan 11 ~ 0.6
9 ~ Tyson Goldsack 10 ~ 0.5
10 ~ Clinton Young 9 ~ 0.5
10 ~ Tim Broomhead -9 ~ 1.1

Compared to us last year

1 ~ Travis Cloke 68 ~ 3.1
2 ~ Jamie Elliott 30 ~ 1.5
3 ~ Ben Reid 25 ~ 1.1 (Played in defence half the year)
4 ~ Dane Swan 21 ~ 0.9
5 ~ Steele Sidebottom 19 ~ 0.8
6 ~ Scott Pendlebury 18 ~ 0.8
7 ~ Sam Dwyer 15 ~ 0.7
8 ~ Jarryd Blair 14 ~ 0.6
9 ~ Josh Thomas 11 ~ 0.6
10 ~ Andrew Krakouer 10 ~ 1.2

The only major difference is Cloke's output. He averaged over three goals in 2013. Also Jessie White and Ben Reid averaged the same amount of goals per game despite Reid playing in defence half the year.

In 2013 we had 6 players over 15 goals. This year we only had 4.

Cloke's output will have to improve this year and Dane Swan will have to kick more midfield goals to replace Beams. Ben Reid has to back to the forward line IMO. In half a year he kicked 25 goals and its clear Cloke plays better when he has backup. Reid give us another genuine marking threat in the forward line and a goal kicking source.

A full season of Broomhead hopfully he can kick at least 15 goals. He averaged 1.1 goals this year but I think that will decrease if he plays a role more up the field and becomes a part of the midfield rotation, which I think he should as it would allow guys like Sidebottom who is a proven goal kicker to rest forward more .

The addition of Varcoe will be interesting too. Weather he plays on the wing, forward or back line. In 2010 and 11 he kicked over goals both years. If he recaptures his form maybe he can help our forwardline but its not yet clear how Buckley will use him.

Prediction of 2015 top 10:

Travis Cloke ~ 59
Ben Reid ~ 47
Jamie Elliot ~ 31
Dane Swan ~ 21
Steele Sidebottom ~ 19
Travis Varcoe ~ 17
Tim Broomhead ~ 15
Levi Greenwood ~ 13
Scott Pendlebury ~ 11
Brodie Grundy ~ 10

Cloke gets back to better form, Jamie Elliott goes into the middle more, Swan has a much better year, Varcoe plays on the wing and rests forward, Broomhead plays more games and spends more time in the middle, Greenwood gets more midfield time but kicks less goals, Pendlebury has a similar year and we play with 2 rucks, Grundy and Witts kick 19 goals between them.

Me personally don't think he'll be best 22 next year.

Edit: its just a top 10 its not every goal kicker

Hard to assess yet, still would love to see what Jessie White could do when there's a fully fit Reid to take that second man, White was looking good towards the end of the year and considering he still hasn't played the role he was brought over here for, reckon he can go another level, has the athleticism to do it.

Fasolo kicking just under 30 in basically his 1st year shows he has the potential, and Freeman a smokey to kick a few, will probably play him through the foward line and part time mid with his body and speed will be a great leading target in the mould of early Dangefield. Danger kicked 21 and 26 in his first few years, but I reckon Freemans a freak, so would not be surprised if he tops that, seriously watch this kid fly.
Plays well enough and Elliot goes into the midfield more often and fills the Beams void.

Broomhead will take over from Beams as our mid field goal kicker, he will actually kick more goals in 2015 then Beams did in 2014.

We do lack serious forwards though, apart from Cloke and Elliott there's no other reliable scorers, so we have to remedy that somehow.

Kick it long.
Kick it high.
Kick it on top of Clokes head.
That's been the game plan for the last couple of years.
That other players have goaled has been incidental to the plan.
And there's the issue. We are simply awful going into the F50.
That needs to change.

Fasolo has the potential to get 30-40 if he can get over his injuries and find a position that works for him.

I have high hopes for Freeman, put him down for 20+ if his hammys hold up. Anyone getting down to training will tell you he stands out from a mile away, just oozes athleticism and natural ball skills, speed, awareness. His speed and accuracy will also give our marking forwards an advantage and help our terrible forward delivery issues.

A full season for Elliot and he will hit 50 goals this year. He gets better every season, if he hadn't had his season interrupted by injury he probably would have hit 40-50.

Don't forget varcoe he's a lock for 25-30.

Reid can be a 50 goal player easy if he can stay fit. No problem for him to average 2-3 a game. A fully fit year it would not surprise me if he challenged for the Copeland.

That leaves Cloke who is going backwards the freedom to move to the backline where his terrible kicking will not cost us so badly. New forward structures and setups are required and I think removing Cloke from the forward line and starting afresh is the only way forward.

Sidebottom I think will go nuts this year and be in the 35 realm with beams out of the picture.

Seedsman I'm hoping gets a lock on the wing and can average 1.5 a game so 30 odd for him.

Tony Armstrong will get at least 20 rotating through the wing/HF zone, and rack up assists with his pin point passes.

I think Swan will make a comeback and give us 30-40 based up forward.

Darcy Moore. Just wait I've seen him at training last week he looks shit hot. Great kick on him, even as a HF he will rack up assists he is a great pass, very focussed, accurate, something we are missing up forward.

I'm expecting more from Pendles next year.

Broomhead could really step into the elite next year given how well he was going. We won't miss beams. Put him down for 15-20.

Crisp might well surprise us I think.

Blair needs to be dropped, time to get serious if we want to rise again.

If this all happens, and it's not out of the question, we are premiership contenders.

I'd like a forward line that includes Reid but for mine he's our best player in our defensive 50 so putting him forward, though effective, would make our team weaker overall IMO. Hoping Patty K can get a gig and step up as a good 3rd tall/high hf.

Cloke reach 60+
Elliot 40
Karnezis/White 30-35
Sidey, Pendles, Broomhead and Swan 15-25

Cloke -55
Elliott- 35
Sidebottom-24
Reid- 20
Karnezis- 20
Swan - 18
White-17
Broomhead-15
Pendles-14
Blair-12

Some people are being terribly optimistic for a team that has had a dysfunctional forward for the best part of 4 years. I much prefer to set my expectations low so they stop dissapointing me.

Reid kicked 25 in half a year with a dysfunctional forward line though.

That's right and with a full year up forward, and new wing/midfield with guys who have speed and can kick: freeman, Seedsman, varcoe, Armstrong, broomhead, Pendles, he will be more likely in the 60+ range, and we win the premiership.

He won't spend the entire year up forward in 2015 and our midfield is a lot worse. I'd love it if he gets over 20 goals but I can't see it

Depends I don't think our midfield will be that bad. Swan and Broomhead will take Beams midfield time and Greenwood will take Maccaffer's midfield time. Greenwood is a clear upgrade on Maccaffer. He can win his own ball do a tagging job if we need weather Maccaffer was just a one trip pony. And Swan hopfully won't have to play injured and can get bakc to some form whilst Broomhead can have a big pre-season and spend time in the middle plus Freeman is coming through.

Pendles 2105> Pendles 2014
Adams 2015 > Luke Ball 2014
Greenwood > Macaffer
Sidebottom 2015 > Sidebottom 2014
Varcoe >>> lumumba
Seedsman > Young
Freeman > Beams
Broomhead, Armstrong, karnezis, Pick 5
Swan 2015 > swan 2014

We are are WAY better side next year, and our midfield will dominate.

I think you underestimate the endurance caff brings to the table. He is a run with player for a reason. That kind of position requires understanding of midfield tactics like blocking the lead, grappling etc. I think he is a good chance to be played in a fair few games. I reckon if we play Richmond i want Caff on T. Cotchin again ;)

I agree with you on Swanny and Broomhead though.

That's an insult to Darcy Moore. He needs to average at least 15 goals a game to warrant a second contract.

As much as everyones dream of Dawes playing that second ruck forward role a few years back , His best value was that second big forward providing those assists, I can remember numerous games where he would provide a contest and a little tap on that resulted in a goal . Lets hope as you said that Darcy has a feature to his game like that

Well Maccaffer is a better tagger than Greenwood but Greenwood has the ability to win his own ball and Greenwood doesn't have to be a tagger all the time. Our midfield might lose a shut down role but I think Greenwood's ball wining ability will more than make up for it. I guess I underrate Caff a bit. But yeah that was good game when Caff smashed Cotchin.

I can't believe we have such a dominant year yet still manage to lose the GF to the Hawks! [emoji22]

Armstrong has kicked 2 goals in his entire AFL career ... of 34 games :P

Gault has also kicked 2 goals in his entire AFL career ... of 1 game o_O

If one of our rookies ends up kicking 20 goals, it's far more likely to be Gault than Armstrong! :)

In all seriousness if we don't have:

Cloke 60+
Elliott 40+
Reid/White/Witts/Grundy between them 70+
The rest 120+

We aren't going to do much. Our season total should be over 300 goals, averaging 13 - 15 goals per game.

Our big guns need to combine for over 150 goals and less than 150 behinds.

We can dream though.
