Worsfold also went into that job knowing this was a possibility, though.

He might not have been told it was likely, nor thought it was likely, but when he arrived, the CAS hearing was about to start.

As a plus for Worsfold, the club may as well just extend his contract to a fourth year now, because no one is going to seriously judge him on 2016 results with that many players missing.

Zaharakis deserves it if he wants it. I would hope he is not just an interim captain even if Watson wants to play on next year.
Watson could probably benefit playing his last years without the burden on his shoulders. I hope Essendon make the right decision here.

Man is going to earn $1m+ this year to coach a team that isn't expected to win one game! He should see it as a blessing.

He should've stayed at St Kilda. I don't know what becomes of Goddard's legacy.
 
yes, have empathy for him, he made a decision that he thought would be for the betterment of his life on and off field, it just hasn't worked out for him. people in all walks of life make decisions like that all the time, no one gets it right 100% of the time.
a lot of people especially in anonymous on line forums etc. are very quick to be judgemental and critical of players based on a perception of the players character largely based on media reports that are usually embellished for effect.

That is true no one forced him into the position. The Bombers really wanted him though thats for sure.
Like you said 2016 is a write off and realistically you can´t expect miracles in 2017. Essendon are in beyond rebuild stage.
If players sue, walkout or retire I would expect 3 years is not even long enough to show improvement.
On the positive side Essendon have done it before by playing the kids and this years draftees like look potentially very good players.

Woosh knew exactly what he was getting in to, he's intelligent and has proven he doesn't run when times are tough. He's the perfect coach for Essendon through this and he will love the challenge.
 
In this game Goddard had been sledging North all day with the usual BigFootyesque "You guys are going under soon, you'll fold". Sam Wright let him know all about.

And this is BEFORE he arrived at Essendon.



I think Sam sums up my feelings on him.
 
You have to have sympathy for him. He could not have known what he was getting into when he left Saints. Would be very interesting when he finishes his AFL career to hear what he really thinks about the move he made from Saints to Bombers.

No sympathy for Goddard, he's a big boy getting paid good money..he will be a leader at the club and probably thrive with the resposibility. He'll be ok.
