Pretty good track record for Woosha, made Ben Cousins captain didn't he?
No the Eagles captain is selected both by the coaching panel and the players so it was not Woosha on his own who selected Coysins as captain. It was a joint affair, and also at that time it was not known that Ben had a weakness with drugs. That all came out later!!

Thats how it currently works but thats not how it occurred when cousins was appointed. His father asked the club numerous times before he was appointed not to make him captain but those in charge at the club were set on making him captain

Wasn't Cousins made Captain in 2001 and Woosha didn't start until 2002.

From memory Ken Judge warned the Eagles about making Cousins captain because of the talk around town of his off field exploits.

Agreed.
Goddard gets it for a year and then either Jobe or Heppell get it from 2017.
Watson won't return 100%
Hepple if his smart will exercise his rights to leave and join another Melbourne club. Surely he wants to play finals football and has plenty to offer any team that takes him

How do you know 100%? Are you a close friend or family member? To speak in absolutes when you know absolutely nothing is just stupid.

Fair enough. My opinion is he won't return. Mentally his had it. I think this crap has drained him mentally and drained the life out of him to continue for the stupidest thing I've heard called 'loyalty'. It's meaning is overrated

Who's mentioned loyalty? If anything the reason to go on would be personal. As an elite athlete who has spent the vast majority of his life towards becoming a footballer there would be a heap of personal pride on the line, there could very well be a strong drive to prove a point.

Well that's your opinion
I don't agree with it. But I hope you are right

If I was in his shoes knowing I have 1 or 2 good years. I would do everything I can to get to a team that has a chance at a premiership

Goddard is this generation's Figjam.

I reckon he's a smokie for the Brownlow. Who else is gonna steal votes from him in that side.

Sure, it's meant to be lighthearted (albeit it completely inaccurate) joke.

But St Kilda ain't Brisbane/North and Goddard isnt a patch on Buckley. We've seen how Goddard handles being in a shit team, whereas Buckley wasted his best years in horrific teams and if we were middle of the of the road in the late 90's, Buckley wins three Brownlows. Not because there wasn't anyone to take votes off him, but because he was that ****ing good. Sorry to pull you up, but it was such an incredibly inaccurate comment i just had to.

Yes, Buckley was a much better player. But they both play(ed) with the same attitude.

And you're right, it was a horrific team he played in that lost 2 grand finals in a row.

Ladies this thread isn't about Watson returning or not. It's about Goddard being Captain of the Bombers.

So my opinion is his leadership skills are not equal to his golf skills. The way he pointed and carried on previously will now be worse. Bad choice on an obvious small shortlist.

He was in the running, albeit with a slim chance. He's got the Bradshaw captaincy. Er, That's a Bradbury isn't it!
