Probably has a big chance to get the public perception of him pointed in the opposite direction this year. Needs to be tough, needs to set an example, but also nuture young players.

I'm not convinced he has it in him.

This x10
Goddard needs to be a leader, not just in name but in his actions. He needs to be a hard nut this year and start doing the 1%ers and positively get others involved. If he can do that then my opinion of him would change greatly and he will deserve a lot of praise.

As you say though - what are the odds of that, and how much is gonna fall on guys like Crowley and Kelly to lead thos group.

Yes, Buckley was a much better player. But they both play(ed) with the same attitude.

And you're right, it was a horrific team he played in that lost 2 grand finals in a row.

Yeah... Very different players and personalities.
Buckley may have developed the FIGJAM reputation early but that is clearly not how the club viewed him- particularly not for the 2nd half of his career. His recking up of stats was because much of his career was played on underaverage teams (noone called Ablett selfish at GC) and even the teams he lead to 2 GFs were very much overachieving.
There's a reason the club did everything it could to keep him post football, and that a number of guys he coached as juniors have pushed their way to get to the pies... What do you reckon are the chances of that happening with Goddard?
Also, even though Bucks ability as a coach are very much up in the air still, he has been humble (IMO) when talking about his coaching ability and openly admitted when hed made a mistake, while also having a clear long-term plan and trying to develop a team/style that will be succesful in the long term, even though it meant some short term pain.

Has Mark Baguley as his vc I'm sure he will put Goddard in line if he gets out of controll.

Yes because BJ seems like the kind of guy who would listen to some guy he'd undoubtedly feel superior to

The way he's handled himself as coach has certainly done a lot of good for his image. It also helped having Hird doing his thing in setting new standards of figjamery. Which leads us back to Goddard.

Nothing to do with him being captain, but the 2010 GF was on Fox footy a day or so ago and I noticed Goddard drop his knees into a Pie players head, and then get a warning from the ump for it.
Hadn't seen that before, due to being rightly blind drunk on the day, but I assume it wasn't highlighted by the MRP either.

I have zero recollection of it being in the media, which is odd, considering it was pretty blatant.

If Heppel was able to pull Goddard in line I'm sure Baguley won't have a problem.
Baguley is an ordinary footballer coming up 29-30 that gives away dumb frees & lacks skill. He does try hard though I'll give him that. God I hope Goddard doesn't get injured, Baguley could be the worst footballer thats captained a side in the history of the AFL.

Wtf? Baguley certainly isn't a star but he's an excellent small defender who is strong over head and always uses the ball well.
