Goddard was at his peak 2 years ago. With his body having OP, a recent shoulder operation and turning 28, he is past his peak years. He'll be collecting his super payout by the time Essendon are contending for a Top 4 position, at that time, Caddy will be approaching his peak years as a midfielder.

What compo pick does Geelong have? I would love for the Saints to use their compo pick on Caddy if possible, and from everything I've heard, the Saints seem keen to. Seems to me that they'll be even more likely to go for someone like Caddy after losing Goddard.

We still have one of our two first round Ablett compensation picks left. The difference between the two is that the Saints' compo pick for Goddard must be used in this draft (whether by the Saints or the team they trade it to). Geelong's pick can be 'banked' and used in any draft until 2015 which may appeal more to the Suns (assuming we offer it for Caddy as has been reported).

Seems like Goddard was at his peak in 2010? Certainly not saying he won't get there again...but you can hardly claim that he is currently at his 'peak' unless it be some weak speculation that he will get there purely because he's 28.

The only other thing to add to that is that Goddards footskills, height and versatility mean that he is a player who stands a good chance of playing wll into his 30's. Probably the best player to move clubs since Judd.
