Knights moved for opportunity, Lynch for security in his last few years. Tippet wants to go back to Qld, Wellingham potentially back to WA. Etc.
Goddard has moved to another mid-table finishing side that plays at the same ground - for a bit more money. It's a touch curious.
Come out and say it - he's a Judas
it's not curious really. Goddard has said via his management that is was a combination of more money and better chances of success. It really doesn't matter whether you or BigFooty agree; Goddard thinks he's more chance of playing in a Premiership at Essendon than at St Kilda.Knights moved for opportunity, Lynch for security in his last few years. It's not curious at all.
So he leaves the 9th placed team to join the 11th placed team, because that will bring him closer to a flag....or 'this club's going nowhere, i want flags now'.![]()
Also before you mention Knights, again, he address a need and has a clear role. He is of a age we need ( just turned 26). He is a HFF who can rotate in the middile ( the only other we have that can sorta do that is Nahas with limited success).
Thats completley diffrent then the tigers commiting 700+ for a sweeper for 4 years.

That's like a hooker saying "listen I'm leaving because the brothel down the road pays twice as much AND there's a temp agency next door that supplies extras to Neighbors and I might be discovered yayyy". Well yeah maybe, but you really leaving for the money and everyone knows it.
Just so we're clear Essendon have picked up a fallen star who is now essentially usesless.
But he demands the top level of compensation for his former club.
Have I missed something?

Which from recent reports is only a little more then what St Kilda were prepared to offer. The compensation is determined by the amount Essendon is prepared to pay him. Thats what you've missed.
Looks like we're losing Monfries.3. When Essendon inevitably loses a 'name' in the future under free agency I look forward to revisiting this thread.

Hey I was surprised as you. I thought we just played 21 some weeks.Touche - but I thought Monfries left 2 years ago - don't tell me he played this year?

I would think that yes an extra 60k a year over 4 years is enticing enough to leave a club youve spent a decade at particularly when the club is also on the downward slide down the ladder and the premiership window is closed. That too would have had something to do with his decision. If he went to GWS he could probably get that $400k in one season...
Is $60k per year in the hand worth walking from one club you've spent a decade at to another which based on ladder position is no closer to a flag?
If Goddard was happy at St Kilda he would not have taken up Essendon's offer. Clearly something was giving him the shits.
Does player as good as Goddard really have to worry about security?Lynch jumps for another year = security;
Goddard does it = curious
Hmm.
You guys are forgetting the power and alure and lifestyle of the big clubs
what afl superstar would want to train all the way out in seaford
when you have power house clubs like Richmond,Collingwood,Carlton in the City....
St kildas biggest mistake is that seaford training base
1. No - Goddard is far from being useless - Essendon will get some value out of him.
2. He would have been on the highest $ next year due to the way the contracts have been timed; in the cold light of day it will actually be recognised that Essendon has done us a huge favour.

I still say that something else is behind it, I'd be guessing what though
Be keen to hear Judd speak openly about why he left WC...I don't disagree that he has more chance of success at Essendon than St Kilda, but the success angle has barely raised its head in the media.
Perhaps its a big media conspiracy, but I get the impression (admittedly based on nothing, just an impression) that Goddard didn't want to be at St Kilda in 2013, and the Saints not matching Essendon's offer worked in his favour. I'd love to see a player like Goddard come out and say 'yeah, Scott Watters is a massive dickhead,' or 'this club's going nowhere, i want flags now'.![]()
