Smart move by the Saints. Way too much for a utility player.

~1/12th of Essendons salary cap for the next 4 years.
Monfries going, Mcveigh gone, Hurley is signed up for all of those years, Watson isn't going anywhere, Heppel is signed up for 3 of those.
Who cares?

Havent seen where it said we were chasing him as hard as your mob were, and im guessing we offered him less than your lot. But then i guess we could offer him a chance at a flag and you guys cant. Shows he is after the cash rather than success :thumbsu::thumbsu:
Have you got a time machine at the cattery now? :D

End of trade week, after Saints have made any moves etc.

So we've let him go for a question mark, if you were curious.

End of Free Agency actually (a week before the end of the trade period).

This allows them to do something with any compensation picks they get (for example, trading a mid first rounder compensation pick to Gold Coast for Caddy).

Richmond have reportedly offered a 4 year to Chaplin who 27 in February. Just as likely to backfire imo.

We aren't paying him 800k per season though

It doesn't matter who is coming or going.

$8,870,000 x 4 = $35,120,000

$35,120,000/$2,900,000 = 12.11

Many players take less than market odds to stay with their club. Certain Collingwood and Geelong players over last few years come to mind.

Interesting.

Yeah, like Ablett!

Other than Cloke (and still, it's hard to say what contract he ended up with and what he would have been offered elsewhere) this theory has not really been tested. It's the first year of FA.

Goddard could be AA next season or could be a flop. As a neutral who doesn't overly care about St Kilda, Essendon or Goddard, I'm pretty curious to see how this one pans out.

Will Saints now offer their compensation pick for Caddy and if so, is it more enticing than Geelong's compo pick?

What compo pick does Geelong have? I would love for the Saints to use their compo pick on Caddy if possible, and from everything I've heard, the Saints seem keen to. Seems to me that they'll be even more likely to go for someone like Caddy after losing Goddard.

2013 - $9.139 million per club (5 percent increase)
2014 - $9.632 million per club (5.4 percent increase)
2015 - $9.92 million per club (3 percent increase)
2016 - $10.2 million per club (3 percent increase)

Try again Euler.
