I'm actually very relieved he has left now. Yeah, the guy on his day is a gun. That 2010 mark will always live in my memory. Since that, he's dished up pure tripe.

He is not worth the money in his current form. Not even close. Maybe a change of scene will get him back to that level. We will see if that happens.

I'll happily take pick 13 (and if we get any less it's a joke), and free up a lot of cap space.

I was kinda hoping he'd come up here, but not to worry, we will get some quality players (and thank **** we didn't get cloke!!)
But yeah should fit in well at Bomberland, but am not confirdent his body will make it through 4 more seasons..

Monfries is a handy player and no disresepct meant to him but he is no where no goddard, even with free agency you have to give to get, essendon need to do that more and this is a start

So Monfries goes for contract $$ and 4 year deal reasons, and Goddard comes in vice verca but two years older.

Are Bomber fans really saying Monfries is fringe? He has averaged 19-20 games per year for the last 4 years and has reached peak age. Monfries best year might still be ahead of him when we know Goddards very best year is mostl likely behind him.

Goddard is a great get...but losing Monfries due to Goddard lessons the the net gain affect. Plug one leak, open up another.

We have to work this thing under what's called the salary cap. Does anybody seriously think Monfries is a better player?

Good Footballer. Its possible the change of club will help him move on from the Grand Final heartbreak that seems to have affected his 2011 and 2012 form.

The only query is how much they are paying him but a club generally has to pay overs to get a good player from another club. Based on what Brian Cook has said about no player at Geelong getting more than 600K in 2011 the Bombers are paying Goddard more then some Geelong 3 time premiership players will earn in 2013.

Interesting decision given the flux in the conditioning set up at the Bombers after their hamstring fest. How can Corcoran have any significant input as was mooted when he is replacing Paul Hamilton as Football Manager?

Its a long way from Tullamarine to the sandbelt.

I think big name signings like this can be a double edged sword here, in that if you take the plunge and fail you hurt yourself bad it adds a degree of pressure that effects everyone at the club, i'm glad its not richmond getting him because we'd surely crack from that pressure.

It is a gamble but if it pays off could be the step for the bombers to take the next step.

So you will be happy if the AFL give you a second round pick for him given that he was such a liability?

Pretty sure the compensation picks are based on what draft pick a player was taken with and career achievements to date. Goddard being a no.1 draft pick and a dual All Australian is still worth a first round pick even if he has been pretty poor the past couple of years.

If he is such a poor player and a liability, prefers Golf, has a poor attitude and has lost pace and his leap and was suspended for two games how did he finish fourth in your B&F this year?

2012 Trevor Barker Award Votes
1. Lenny Hayes, 124
2. Leigh Montagna, 121
3. Sean Dempster, 112
4. Brendon Goddard, 96
5. Nick Riewoldt, 81
6. Jarryn Geary, 80
7. Nick Dal Santo, 79
8. Sam Fisher, 69
9. David Armitage, 66
10. Jack Steven, 65

I was surprised he finished that high in our B&F, I don't think his output this year warranted it.

He wasn't even named in the AA 40 man squad this year so his year can't have been that good.

Anyone think this might be a new strategy for clubs. Wait for an aging champion to turn 28 and pass him on for a first rounder and a new ten year player. Bombers TBH have done ok here but Saints have done very well assuming their strategy is a rebuild.

that's pretty much the point of FA tbh

There must be some mistake!

Goddard was fuming when Luke Ball left! No way he'd do this to the saints

Didn't Anderson mention that the compensation picks will not be as good as they were for losing players to expansion clubs?

Man, how did this shit hack player (or so Saints fans are now trying to tell us) finish 4th in the Saints B&F, above their captain?
TBH they were trying to keep him at Moorabin. As an independent I cannot see how he had a better year than many of those listed beneath him. It's a bit like them announcing that he may get the captaincy next year. All avenues were being exhausted to retain him at St Kilda.
