I remember last time Goddard played for us against essendon and we got spanked they were all gloating that Goddard was a just a big soft outside sooky la la that couldn't handle a tag. Now he is on the essendon list and he is one of the most dominant players in the game again. Go figure.

But what does making Goddard finish 4th in the BnF actually achieve? If he won it, fair enough, maybe that would entice him to stay.

If they really wanted him to stay, all they had to do was give him a 4th year on his contract. Fair enough they didn't want to be held ransom by a player, but they can't now be disappointed about it because he called their bluff.

He didn't call our bluff. We let him go. If we were bluffing we woulda offered him more once he said he was leaving. Do you understand how a bluff even works?

Listening to Watters tonight I don't think they are dissapointed, I think they have been perfectly prepared to let him go. Waters cited not just this years form but last years and pretty much said that this is Brendan's standard as a player. That is what the Saints believe. They do not believe he will be better than he has shown the last 2 years so no way could they offer more than they did.
If you look at Goddard's career 2010's form was an aberration, the other 10 years haven't produced good seasons through 22 rounds.

He is a good player, just not an 800k player. Essendon must think they are a real shot at a flag to make a move like this. Last club to make a similar move was Carlton and we all now how that's going

No I'm gutted. He is one of my favourite players. But I still think he played his best footy for st kilda. And I was just marvelling at the fact that the same essendon supporters that bag him every time we play them now think he is the second coming of Christ.

I've watched a few Essendon games live and they're screaming out for two things. A hard, inside midfielder to help Jobe and a HBF who can clear the lines. They consistently broke down at half back against Collingwood and huge portions of that game was played between 40m-80m of Collingwood's goal.. Goddard fixes this.

They'll make the 8 next year now.
