Had to happen, didn't it?

We have our own GoFundMe controversy for homeless Trolley Man on Burke Street who's had well in excess of $100,000 raised and whom the police are now hunting down on outstanding burglary warrants.

Over in the US a feel-good tale of a homeless man using his last $20 to help a stranded New Jersey woman buy petrol was actually a complete lie, manufactured to get strangers to donate more than $US400,000 ($550,000) to help the down-and-out good Samaritan, a prosecutor has said.

Burlington County prosecutor Scott Coffina announced criminal charges against the couple who told the story to newspapers and television stations along with the homeless man who conspired with them to tell the story.

Of course, they've already spent all the money. On a BMW, took a New Year's trip to Las Vegas and bought high-end handbags.

How many people donate because it makes themselves feel better/look better on social media I wonder. Would explain why people are in such a rush to give randoms who they barely know their hard earned.

Was such a high profile incident, that might have something to do with it.
