Delisted North Melbourne wingman Trent Dumont says he’s in discussions with “a few” AFL clubs about joining as a delisted free agent during the upcoming acquisition period.

Dumont was cut by the Kangaroos after the trade period, bringing an end to a stint at the club that included 113 games after being taken with pick No.30 in the 2013 draft.

Speaking ahead of the delisted free agency period, with the first window opening on November 3, the 26-year-old said he was in the mix for a spot at another club.

GOLD Coast has delisted rugged journeyman Jacob Townsend but says it will consider re-drafting him as a rookie. Townsend, 28, is perhaps best remembered for his role in the Tigers' drought-breaking 2017 premiership, where he came into their team in round 22 and kicked 16 goals in the ensuing five matches on the way to the flag.

Actually I'm wondering how that works?
You delist someone you have to pay out their contact? Polecat would have to nominate a new salary on entering the draft?
Sure, but unless players have a club that's flagged they'll pay a certain amount, they'd usually go for near minimum allowed. Polec's out of league and family loaded wife (where he'll end up working in the family business) are Victorian based. There's no way he'd go anywhere outside Victoria if North were willing to take the ridicule of paying him out, rather than letting his contract drift until it's inevitable expensive conclusion. North obviously want him off the books, but no bites at other clubs, at least them picking up as much of the salary as North wanted.

After a list lodgement day on November 10, the second window for delisted free agents will run for five days, from November 11 to November 15.

Time to change the heading and get us excited for Wednesday!

Dumont would be worthwhile. He would line up best 22 puts more pressure on SPP to shape up or ship out and increases our flexibility in the draft ie. we can take Wanganeen-Milera if he's available and we think he's a good fit.

Outside of Dumont there's not really anything for us.
