As the title suggests, I am coming from Melbourne to Adelaide to watch the Magpies vs Crows game in Round 4. I've decided to make a weekend out of it so I ask anyone who lives (or anyone who has been) in Adelaide to give some places to go. Are there any other sights to see, within the metropolitan area or outer area (1+ hour drive)?

Stay
  • Walking distance and nice locations - East end of Adelaide or North Adelaide
  • Walking distance and up and coming - Brompton/Bowden
  • Beachside - Glenelg, has a tram to the city (not really recommending the spot but its popular)
  • Beachside - Henley Beach, A lot of Port & Crows players live around here

Do (Within an hour)
  • Adelaide Hills - Book a lunch at the Hahndorf inn, get someone to drive you there and have a stein
  • Adelaide Hills - Wine tour
  • Adelaide Hills - Throw rocks at Alexander Downers house
  • Mclaren Vale (1 hour South of city) - Wineries (Shiraz) / Breweries
  • Barossa (1 hour North of city) - Wineries (Shiraz) / Breweries
  • Catch the tram to and from Glenelg if its good weather for people watching. Go to The Moseley and support your Boak and Gray through their 5% share (also owning a share in a pub means you can never leave...)
  • Hindmarsh / Inner City - Pirate Life Brewery for the hipsters
  • Hindmarsh / Inner City - West End Brewery for the non-hipster. The tour is apparently really good even if the beer isn't
  • Port Adelaide - head to Alberton and have a look at our 800+ AFL/SANFL flags
  • Port Adelaide - I haven't actually been to the Port in a long time but it's finally getting the hipster love in that the governments have wanted for a long time.
  • Norwood - relieve the great Jarman Impey car drive and foot race from Angus Monfries house. Also has plenty of cafes
  • Norwood - If there is a SANFL game on Friday night at Norwood go to it and have a few. The Colonist pub across the road is good.

I always like the muesum and art gallery on North Tce and its free so it does pass some time.
The Riverbank is slowly getting there, a few restaurants are popping up there.
A ride on the popeye.. along the torrens its relaxing and something to pass the time.
If you're into latin dancing or just want to perv on other people Casablabla is great for drinks and meal.... really anywhere on Leigh street will be good for a few drinks and food.

What is it you're looking to do? Are you coming over here with a young family? Or like to party? Are you driving over or flying? This will all depend on answers. :)

The CBD has a few nice restaurants and cafes, mainly on the northern side.

-Adelaide Oval roof climb is highly recommended. Don't do it on gameday though as you'll likely miss most of Adelaide's goals in the first quarter ;)

-Adelaide Zoo is nice. Short walk from the CBD.

-If you want to do the hipster thing, you can hire a boat bbq that floats in the torrens. Never done it, but it looks cool.

-If you like wine, McLaren Vale and the Barossa have some nice wineries - can easily jump on a tour bus from the city.

-Wrong time of the year for beaches, but incase it's warm, the metro coastline has some nice beaches. Keep an eye out for Jaws.

-If you've got a car, I highly recommend a drive down south on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Some great views, beaches, and coastal walking trails, including caves at Second Valley (good fishing spot too). While you're in the area, stop by Victor Harbor, one of our bigger regional centres and a tourist hotspot. Take a horse-drawn cart to Granite Island and maybe see a penguin (if they're not all dead).

Don't bother with the casino - it's trash.

If you've got a lot of extra cash to splash around, Orana Restaurant is the current title holder of Gourmet Traveler Australian Restaurant of the Year - located in Rundle Street.

As above - if you have a car there is a growing number of very cool distilleries in the Adelaide Hills, specialising in Gin. E.g. https://www.applewooddistillery.com.au/

No Car? Then visit this distillery in the CBD

Was thinking of heading up to Glenelg beach if the weather was fair and just to have a look around. Handorf as well Is at the top of my list... well... below the footy at Adelaide Oval of course. Thank you for your suggestions.

Take a drive down to McLaren Vale and have lunch at D'Arenberg winery. Nice spot, good food. Gets busy so book ahead.
