Heading over for the Freo v Pies game this Sunday at the "g", does the club hold any after match function's whilst playing at the "g"....also whats the best option for freo supporters with regards to seating....ie The more Freo/less collingwood supporter option would be good.

Good luck with that! They're like termites and permeate everything!

But seriously, Collingwood supporters aren't that bad.... just stay away from their cheer squad. I've had no problems with Collingwood supporters at games in the past.... Essendon on the other hand....

i was over two weeks ago for the carlton game - the guy at the ticket office just needs to know who you're supporting & puts you in the public reserve for that team ( the $17.00 tickets) unlike subi that meant instead of being allocated a seat you get a open ticket for about 6 blocks & can sit anywhere in that area

I was at the Carlton game too. If the Collingwood game is the same ticketing format (not 100% sure on that), then our cheersquad will have the first five rows behind the goals at the City end reserved, and the surrounding area will be general admission. I'd strongly recommend doing what I did; buying a general admission ticket and sitting in the row behind them. They're a load of fun. It's much better sitting with your own kind.

donkey did you go to the sydney game the night before? i don;t know if it was just the enclosed spaces of the dome making an echo- but the sydney cheer squad were superb (very friendly and very loud) i found our cheersquad a bit disappointing actually ( very quiet & not much leading of cheers or welcoming of strangers) we were sat on the other side of the aisle from the cheersquad

Buy your ticket through ticketmaster over here, you will have a better chance of getting a good seat.
It's a unique experience watching Collingwood, their fans are very different.
Hope you enjoy our next win as we march on toward September. :p

i didn;t buy ticket in advance to avoid booking fee & knowing that us & carlton weren't likely to fill the ground knew there'd be plenty of tix on the day - might be a different story with collingwood's fan base

but if it's your first time to melbourne do yourself a favour & take in a game (with closed roof) at the dome - the players might hate the surface but fantastic venue from a spectator point of view

Yeah, agree totally about the Sydney fans at Telstra Dome. I've always thought as far as interstate support in Victoria goes it's us second, Sydney 1st (even though I really don't like Sydney). Although there does suddenly seem to be more West Coast fans in Victoria (bandwagon scum, what the heck could make an Eastern Stater want to like them?).

But I think our mob were pretty good too, considering the small number of them. They seem to do better than our home cheer squad.

I went to four games in Melbourne that weekend and thought the atmosphere at all of them was very average, especially at the "huge rivalry" (BS) Collingwood vs Essendon. I often think our supporters should be louder, but we do better than any Victorian teams.

Go every year, Telstra Dome rocks, surface carp, but brilliant stadium, espicially the pub like atmosphere in the sports bar after & of course, the Cougar Bar....is that still going?

Does freo do any after match functions in Melbourne?

i was told duke of wellington on flinders and the cricketers arms punt rd - didn;t do either as i had my 8 year old with me - but that was for pre game meeting up

plus if you haven;t been & depending on how long you're going & who you're going with -the afl hall of fame on swanston st - i thought it'd be like a museam of old shirts & trophies etc & that we'd be there about 1 hour max. instead we were there all day ( got a pass out for lunch downstairs in the QV foodhall)
but all the interactive stuff was fantastic - well worth the money

i also went over for the carlton game and saw 3 other matches that weekend.. and thank god im not the only one who thought the atmostphere on the friday night was ********... 50 thousand collingwood and essendon supporters i was expecting a defening roar, one word PATHETIC we without a doubt, having seen every team at the home ground i would say that the crows and freo are the most passionant supporters bar none.

p.s go to the dome great venue to watch from and avoid the trams i got harrssed by some slightley ******ed rhichmond supporter about how crap our team is. this is just after richmond coming of a 70 point flogging.

Plugga, the Freo Cheer Squad will be up the Punt Road end this week (Great Southern Stand) - Collingwood has the Ponsford Stand (city end). You should be able to get a GA ticket and sit behind or near the Cheer Squad, but won't actually be able to sit in with them. Not sure about any post match function - keep an eye out on the club's page, there should be something on there if there is going to be anything, or even give the club a call. Make sure you bring your wet weather gear and all the warm clothing you own too - it is absolutley freezing over here at the moment and the rain has finally started.

Any chance I could catch up with you, because I too am heading to Melbourne this weekend for the big match.

I am in the same boat as you, need to find info on berofr/after match functions etc.

Have been advised to contact the Victorian Membership Dept. and will so tommorrow.

I have heard that you could sit anywhere you like at the 'G.

I for one would prefer to be surrounded by as many dockers fans as possible.

No worries...will more than likely be behind cheer squad at great southern stand, there are 6-7 of us coming over, will try hit the Cricketers arms prior for a beer, but if there's no function on, will head there after. We're heding to St kilda markets in morning, so we're going straight from there to the ground. If anyone else interested, there is the Victorian Wine Festival on from thursday to Saturdayy - unlimited wine tastings for several hours $27.50 - for those inclined.

If you get a chance get out to the Brunswick hotel catch tram #19 along elizabeth street. Michael the owner is an ex east freo boy and a one eyed docker fan. yes go to theh cricketers' arms on punt road before the game.

Bottom of the southern stand is generally public seating. They usually start selling reserved seats from bay M1 (behind goals at punt rd end, left of screen), and move around to the wing. But it isnt a big game, so you should be able to pick ya seat in southern stand if ya get there in good time.

Im pretty sure thats how it works.
