With all due respect, that is more wishful thinking I suspect.

The Suns have apparently spent months making a huge sales pitch to the AFL requesting why they should get a pre first 1 draft pick.

They ain't going in for this half-assed, they genuinely think they have a legit shot at it (getting a PP)

They can can think what they like doesnt mean they will get it. Theres no case for it.

Yes it is. That is how free agency and pick trading works.
Thank you. Then it's also fair that Melbourne gets bumped down to pick 3 if the AFL choose to award pick 2 to the Suns. I'm not trying to pick on you in particular, just demonstrating to everyone reading that the logic is sound because the rules are as they are.

Even though I have since changed my tune and do believe Gold Coast need it, it isn't fair, however it is for the betterment of the comp if Gold Coast receive it. However, it doesn't make it fair as there aren't any rules, it is up to the AFL whether or not they see it fit. But I do now agree, they need the pick, even if it is unfair. Picking up two best friends, who are incredibly talented and will bolster the midfield will go a long way to helping the Suns.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm......

Equalisation is not fair. That is the whole point. The whole point.
It does not work otherwise.

It is supposed to be good for the Suns and bad for everyone else.

Throwing draft picks at the suns wont do anything.
Thats the point. The whole point.

not even if we traded them for a decent, mature player?
what else can they do? increase our salary cap again?

Established players have to want to come otherwise you just end up with another kid who may not want to be there
To a lesser extent we have the same problem in Adelaide.

If the suns can retain their kids and get some experience in they will be better next season. Rowell and Anderson to.

Out: Martin, Ah’Chee
In: Greenwood, Betts, Burgoyne, Armitage

B Harbrow Hombsch Ballard
HB Weller Thompson Bowes
C Fiorini Miles Macpherson
HF Sexton Wright Greenwood
F Betts Day Rankine
Foll: Witts Brodie Miller
Inter: Lukosius,Swallow,Burgoyne,King

Honestly a good list. Bowes is Mid though so I'd expect someone else like Hanley or Collins will play while someone else will make way.

Not sold on Armitage and Betts (as a player, happy for him to join in welfare/academy capacity).

Good team except you forgot Ainsworth.

Collins will be in the best 22 and I would expect Hanley, Powell too. Not sure Betts makes best 22 with a healthy list :) Rowell/Anderson will probably also start. A bit competition for spots.

Happy for them to get a pp at the start of the draft although bemused as every by the AFL when Carlton and brissie were as bad or worse in recent years.
To be fair, when Carlton and Brissie were bad you played against GWS and Gold Coast 18 years old kids or less travel. 16 team competition is a lot different than 18 teams competition.

IIRC Brisbane managed to get a priority pick anyway, though it wasn't before the first round.

The one that didn't get a priority pick in the last ten years despite being as poor as GC are now is Melbourne.

I'd argue Melbourne do not need one as they play in an established heartland whereas Gold Coast don't. Making Gold Coast good while more and more juniors play will turn the region into AFL fans which is why they need the pick. Melbourne already play in an established heartland. However, this should be the last time (bar extremely dire circumstances) that any team should get a priority pick this high (excluding free agency).

If the Suns can keep hold of most of their young talent over the next few years they are going to have the bones of an exceptional young list eg. Noah Anderson, Matt Rowell, Charlie Ballard, Ben Ainsworth, Jack Bowes, Jack Lukosius, Brayden Fiorini, Izak Rankine, Ben King, lots of star/x factor there.

That's not taking into account who they could get for their current picks 15 & 20 in this years draft + what they get for Jack Martin.

Then you have Hugh Greenwood, Brandon Ellis and maybe one/both of the Crouch brothers to add experience and leadership.
