Re: Gold Coast Already Signed a Pies Player?

I love trade week its interesting to see who goes where and all the rumours are fun i actually love that week and you can use it to improve the list.

Trade Week though really only goes for 1 day (when the trades are done). The week is the slowest week of the year if you follow it intently.

Re: Gold Coast Already Signed a Pies Player?

can we ban Dave from making 'rumour' threads

Just put me on your Ignore List then

Re: Gold Coast Already Signed a Pies Player?

Can we at least change the thread title?

Re: Gold Coast Already Signed a Pies Player?

Reading the Hun article, with GC stating they are gagging to release their sign-ups, it just whiffs to high heaven of a campaign to make it seem like a bunch are coming over, in order to make those contemplating it more comfortable with a switch.

I've no doubt they've signed some players - possibly only players that would be trade bait end of season - but its all about creating the impression there is no crisis for the GC.

Gibbs, Franklin, Selwood, Hurley, [strike] Corrie [/strike] a bunch of guns have said no to GC so they have the stink of desperation all over them.

They did this at work when they were trying to flog non-union agreements - telling us work-group after work group were going for it. They couldn't tell us who because they were hamstrung by 'privacy' reasons, but would love to have told us. In the end less than 5% did so.

Re: Gold Coast Already Signed a Pies Player?

Trade Week is the worst week of the year. Speculation / threads like this only deter away from the overall enjoyment of the year. Stop them.

I disagree entirely. I believe it to be the most interesting. That is one aspect I would love to see more of in the AFL. As an NBA fan listening to all the speculation for the 2010 free agency is a blast and to be honest I wish there would be more speculation in the AFL in regard to player signings and trades. Fantastic thing as a fan with all the excitement and anticipation.

I agree, trade week is one of the best AFL weeks of the year.

In fact, I think we should have a trade week mid season, where clubs can trade players that aren't required by them.

It could happen around the time of the bye/split round, and clubs would nominate 4-5 players each that they are willing to trade, and then it would be "on".

The AFL will never do it though, they have no balls when it comes to real innovation in our game.

IMO the AFL Trade/Player Movement doesn't have anything on the American sports. Free Agency is rife there & players move to the franchises they want to.

I don't follow the NBA but if I were a Lakers/Suns/Magic/Celtic fan, I'd be frustrated that the talk of Lebron moving is taking away attention from these 2 series.

Re: Gold Coast Already Signed a Pies Player?

Or we could all wait until something is actually concrete and then we can worry about the fact PLAYER X Y OR Z has left instead of stressing every minute waiting for it to happen, creating reactionary threads on no basis and constantly being on edge

This whole Gold Coast thing is fascinating actually.

We all know that players will leave making this upcoming off season likely to be the most interesting ever.

I hope we don't lose a player and like many people have been in denial about any likely loss of one of our best 22. This quote from the Gold Coast that some players have already signed on the dotted line is actually significant news and it should open our eyes to the possibility of it being from our club.

This thread isn't reactionary with no basis however people don't like to think about these things so will attack posters for starting threads about it.

This is true, nobody likes rumours that are unfounded or based against the club you support, or the person who iniates the unfounded rumours, However the discussion of which players may go north is always a viable one, and something that is happening in football today.
From my point of view, the players most likely to leave our club is Goldsack and Dawes primarily due to limited opportunities last season (Dawes) and competition in the backline at the pies (Goldsack).
And to a lesser extent Wood - due to the drafting of Jolly, and Wellingham as his name was thrown-up in the off-season as a trade sweetener.

Yes I understand that the AFL and NBA trade, free agency and player movement systems in general are entirely different. Just with the greater flexibility of movement in the NBA it is far more open to rumours and speculation which is incredibly fun as a fan. The culture in AFL football almost does not allow this as the expectation is that you stay with your team to the levels that you are a traitor (think Luke Ball to St Kilda fans) while in the NBA the norm is to fish around for the best deal you can (your Lebron James and co). From a fan perspective the AFL with such limited player movement is almost unfortunate. I by no means am a supporter of free agency in the AFL, infact I am totally against the concept, instead I would much rather have a mid-season draft and increased player movement via trades (which could happen for example in the mid year break to allow players greater opportunity).

This bigfooty game I created should give you an idea of how I'd love to see things go where trading is uncapped and there is also a midseason draft:

Adresssing your second point as a Chicago Bulls fan personally I'm loving the free agency, trade and draft speculation far more than the actual games themselves. Makes for the most interesting reading I find.

Depends if our team is involved in any trades is how exciting Trade Week can be.

I reckon a Mid Season Trade Week would be a Great Idea. Poor Teams could Trade for Draft Picks while Top Teams trade Draft Picks for Stars

Don't we have to lose a Player to the Gold Coast?

Not Sure Wood or Dawes would go Espcially them getting game time this year and we need them long term.

Goldsack could be the 1 that leaves as we a few players like him on the list

I'm closing this one down. If we are going to get a heap of threads on the Gold Coast it is just going to clog up the board and make it hard to navigate. From now on if you have any speculation regarding the Gold Coast post it in the All Gold Coast Rumour and Speculation thread. Until it is closer to the draft if you have in draft and trade talk discussion post in the the draft and trade talk thread.
