Does it have the potential to become one of the biggest rivalries in the game? After meeting in a final for the first time in 2025 and with both sides likely to be in premiership windows at the same time thanks to high quality young talent coming through, along with the new stadium on the way at Victoria Park and the high quantity of Queenslanders flocking to the AFL as it overtakes the NRL in Queensland it could grow to become one of the biggest rivalries in the AFL if not the biggest in my opinion.

Maybe. Just maybe.

No, because it seems to only matter when they are both playing finals or competitive. The good rivalries matter ever time no matter where the teams are on the ladder.

The only exception to this is when one of the team is an absolute basket case so it starts to feel mean and there is no real danger of losing when playing them.

No. I'm sure both club fanbases have copped more shit from rugby league fans than from each other. So while there's probably not much in the way of fondness for each other's clubs, there's still a level of solidarity amongst all long-term Aussie rules fans in South East Queensland from having to be in rugby league's shadow and endure their jibes for so long. And that means a rivalry will probably always be less bitter than the Showdown or Derby.

Bit like the WA Derby at the moment.

Bigger than the rivalry between LeBronco and PowerfulPies2023 in their competition to start the most threads?

Twas the point I was going to make. The Cats v Hawks rivalry is good no matter where the teams are on the ladder
