Went down and watched the Bendigo Bombers v the Gold Coast in Bendigo today and was extremely impressed with Liam Patrick. Reminds me very much of Liam Jurrah a la 2009. Was very good on the peripheral today and not afraid to jump on someone's head to take a hanger either. Not sure if he grasped one but certainly has the vertical leap and the timing to become one of the most exciting prospects in the AFL in 2011. In fact the Gold Coast have a couple of indigenous kids that look capable of just about anything. Rex Liddy also looked the goods today with some spectacular work around the midfield.

In fact the Gold Coast almost look like an AFL ready team, with their only real lack coming in the big body department. Brendon Matera and Alik Magin are definately ready to step up to the next level as small forwards and the likes of Trent MacKenzie and Luke Powell look more than capable through the midfield.

Personally i think that given another year in the gym and a few experienced bigger bodies that they can be extremely competitive next year. Do not be disuaded by their lack of wins this year or their lack of big signings so far, the Gold Coast are coming and when they arrive the AFL had better beware...

They haven't won a game this year.
Going through their list right now and out of 48 listed players in the record there are 7 players over 22 and 4 of them didn't play today. Let's not lose sight of the fact that these kids are still growing and for many this is their first year against full grown men. Regardless of their win/loss record so far there are some fantastic players in this team and they are only going to get better over the off season. Added to which they will receive the AFL ready bodies they are currently lacking. I am not saying they will play finals next year. I am saying they will be better than we expect.

The comment "they havent won a game" was in response to a claim that they look like an AFL ready team already.
Your repsonse proves that they dont, they look like a team of promising kids.

No one has said that they won't be competative in future.

What exactly do you expect? I expect them to be around the top fo the bottom eight, just like all the new franchises have managed, other than the bears anyway.

Saw a bit of the game on the ABC:
Liam Patrick to Matera, back to Patrick who ran from half back to half foward, chased but had the pace bouncing as he went, passed to the maverick Mavrick Weller, who went back & slotted it.
Lots of promise I think.

The recruiters who overlooked Patrick last year may well be embarassed come 2011.

To be honest i wasn't expecting much. They have so far failed to sign many of the big names they have chased and hadn't won a game so went to the game expecting to see a side that simply wasn't ready to play AFL footy next year.

I came away thinking that they are not far away at all. Give them a solid target up forward and a Ruckman that can get the ball going their way and they would win more games than they lose this year, before any draftpicks and off season signings. Given that they will receive considerable concessions in both areas i think they will be much more of a threat next year than people give them credit for.

Weller looks like a player but i saw a sign he might not be the kind of player they're looking for going forward. At one stage they were trying to drag him but he waved the runner off with a teammate ready to go on. Could have been a misunderstanding but certainly looked like he wasn't prepared to be dragged.

was extremely impressed with Liam Patrick. Reminds me very much of Liam Jurrah a la 2009. .

They are full cousins and have played against, and with, each other many times at remote footy carnivals throughout the remote desert communities of Central Australia. Both from the Warlpiri tribe in remote Central Australia. There are only 4 Warlpiri communities - Liam Jurrah is from Yuendumu, whilst Liam Patrick is from Lajamanu.
