Lester was good down back last year in the second half of the season, not sure what all the fuss is about, lets see how he goes. He is no superstar but he gives his all and is apparently like having another coach on the field. It was never going to be perfect but I am generally happy with the changes. We have injected speed. Robbo tough, its no secret I am not his biggest fan, was ok last week.

In recent times, Lester has played serviceable footy on mid sized forwards who aren’t super explosive. It is a pretty niche role to play but the Suns have a couple of mid sized forwards who aren’t super explosive. Kinda makes sense. If we need height down back, McStay is the break glass in case of emergency option and Gardiner can play tall too.

Never thought the Suns game would be a real test for us to see where we're at but here we go.

If we can play how we want to play and not let them shut the game down then the lid will start to lift off again. If we win in a scrappy game...then meh

Interesting to see that Christensen, Taylor , Basti & Robbo are either just in the 22 or outside. Not a bad place to be.

Lester and to a lesser degree Taylor are not forward thinking selections, IMO, as they would not get games elsewhere and will not be in powerful Lions teams in the future, but we need a team to win on Saturday. Can anyone come up with a match up for Lester?

However he has experience at this level but as others have said over the last two weeks we have needed more blistering pace. Lester obviously no for pace, but Lewie does offer more in this department but Lewie will provide zero defensive pressure.

Cutler is morphing into Bewick i.e. loads of potential but doesn't deliver. Tommie is a favorite of mine and I am going up to the game (level 2 premium reserved) and I hope he contributes to a win.

'Play the kids' is Answerth

Overall I am happy with the selections. None are ideal

No not super speed Footballing ability would be great. The only question Lester is the answer to is who should be delisted at the end of 2019
Sorry mate, but that is ridiculous. On a list of 44, not every player has to be a superstar. Lester has decent IQ, great work ethic and is a strong leader. Is he the future of our club? No. Is he a player who can fill holes when needed? Yes.

Only one I'm a bit disappointed in is Ryan Lester, him and Answerth are both backline players so who goes further up the ground?

Sexton and Holman are named in their forward line. Neither are quick

I’m kinda the opposite. I hope we come expecting Gold Coast to shut the game down and being prepared to out work them and have a higher intensity than them.

I want work boots on, not dancing shoes. I felt we played like millionaires the last couple of weeks and we need to remember that it is the team that does the tough stuff best and most often that wins games. The fun stuff will come if we give it to them with our intensity.

Cutler delivered several times last year - I don't think Bewick had as many good games in his career as Cuts did in the 10 or so game stretch from when he got into the team last year up until his suspension. Think the Karnezis comparison I've seen from TheBrownDog and your Bewick one aren't quite accurate, though there are elements of truth to both (e.g. supporters not understanding why he isn't being picked re Karnezis).

Having said that we has continually been a slow starter in seasons and its something that needs to be addressed. I'll back him in to have a good game though and we will need his run and carry to help us avoid the contested slop the GC will turn the game into.

Yeah that's priority one. Have to match it and beat them up around the footy and have our pressure game show up for a change. Having said that, I also want to see signs that we can transition out of contested situations into our ball movement - its been shut down too easily the past fortnight.

Changes aren't particularly unexpected IMO. Disappointed we didn't go with someone younger than Lester to give them some game experience, but otherwise happy with the changes. Looking forward to seeing if Cutler can prove to the coaches he has what it takes - if he can then he is exactly what we are lacking right now.

Really hoping we fix up the lack of defensive effort in the forward line. McCarthy, Cameron and Rayner over the last 2 games have had a combined total of 8 tackles - nowhere near good enough. Fixing this up will go a great deal towards winning again IMO.

He has not got ‘great work ethic’ during games. He has never averaged 19 disposals in his whole career.Last year playing mainly half back averaged 16.Well below standard.Offers very little defensive pressure and cannot go with small forwards for speed.

One of Ryan Lester's only positive traits is his work ethic though.

So your definition of good work ethic is disposals?

He is not a shut down small defender, he is a utility type. You needn't look any further to several different player interviews last year on The Roar Deal and Lesters name was brought up several times for his defensive work off the ball and ability to play his role. That is off the back of work ethic.

You don't have to rate him as a player. I don't see him as best 22 either. But to call him useless, nothing but a bloke who should be delisted etc is just poor form as a supporter and factually incorrect.
